Reference:1432 Criteria associated: Materials : Gilt bronze Period : Art nouveau Price range : 2001<5000 Description: An Art nouveau ormolu candlestick depicting 'Femme à l'iris sur une feuille de nénuphar' (Woman with iris on a water lily leaf) by the French sculptor Alexandre Clerget (1856-1931). The young almost nude woman is in slight contrapposto and holds on her left arm and shoulder an iris forming the nozzle. She rests on a water lily leaf-shaped base. Signed "A. Clerget ", Siot-Decauville Founder mark. Alexandre Clerget studied sculpture with Alexandre Falguière, then exposed at the Salon between 1889 and 1924 some medallions, bronze busts, patinated and gilt bronze small statues. The Sevres manufactory realized several models after Clerget's sculptures. Moreover, Siot-Decauville foundry, Barbedienne's rival at the end of XIXth century, edited some works of this artist such as 'La Liseuse', 'La Consultation' and 'Femme à l'iris sur une feuille de nénuphar'.
