March at Matsuhisa Athens There are some places that just effortlessly capture the eternal mood of summer no matter what time of year you visit. A prime example is Matsuhisa Athens, a true Athens Riviera institution. All-year round, it’s almost impossible to feel anything other than chilled and perfectly in-the-moment there. Maybe it’s their slinky extended terrace with its slew of bamboo globe lights hanging overhead; and the serene expanse of beautiful Vouliagmeni Bay stretching out beyond. Or perhaps it’s the whirl of seagulls above as the sun takes its dramatic bow beneath the horizon. This March, Matsuhisa Athens bids farewell to winter with 3 special drink and menu pairing events, designed to celebrate the glamorous Riviera lifestyle: March 10: The wines of Pavlidis Estate, makers of the exceedingly popular Thema varieties from the region of Drama in northern Greece, will take centre-stage. March 17: The spotlight will be on the superb wines from Gaia Estate, who own modern wineries in what are two of Greece’s most fruitful regions in the global viniculture arena: Nemea, in the Peloponnese, and Santorini. March 24: Gin may not be the first association you make with fine Japanese dining but actually, Beefeater 24 is a superpremium gin infused with both Japanese and Chinese teas, creating a distinctive product that is perfectly suited to contemporary cocktail culture. SNFCC: It’s finally ours! It’s been an instant love affair. Since opening in mid-2016, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) has rapidly made its mark on both our cultural landscape and in our affections thanks to its world-class design and impressive community spirit. And now this week – Thursday, February 23 – the training wheels are finally coming off as the SNFCC is to be handed over to the Greek people (aka: the Greek State), and the Greek National Opera and National Library of Greece begin the transition to their brand new home. In this pivotal week, and throughout the rest of February, the SNFCC is rolling out a wonderful line-up of free events, such as exhibitions, film screenings, lectures, guided tours, educational workshops and sporting activities for all ages, live music and dance recitals, not to mention Carnival celebrations. Here’s how you can join in: On February 23, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation invites you to mark together the moment when the SNFCC will be handed over to the Greek people with a ceremony at the Stavros Niarchos Hall at 6pm, to be followed by an artistic program that will unfold in the Hall as well as in various other locations across the SNFCC. The event will be broadcasted live at the Agora, the Book Castle and the Lighthouse. Reserved seating will be available online at www.SNFCC.org/events for the Stavros Niarchos Hall. No reservations are required for attending in the outdoor events. On Carnival Sunday and Clean Monday (26-27 February), there will also be live music, carnival parades, games, crafts and traditional delicacies to send spirits soaring sky-high, along with the kites you may build and fly yourself in the Park. Meanwhile, if you haven’t already done a guided tour of the grand new premises and parklands, we highly recommend it (you can book a free one in English). It’s a terrific way to bond with the site and discover its full potential. You can read the full February programme of SNFCC events in English by clicking HERE Insider Weekly, February 22, 2017.
