Natasa Hadjiandreou, percussion,
Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra
Natasa Hadjiandreou was born in Cyprus in 1989 and began studying percussion
at the age of 11 under the guidance of Nicolas Papageorgiou, principal
percussionist of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, on scholarship at the Music
Workshop of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra. From the age of 15 she
was the youth orchestra’s principal timpanist.
She continued her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester,
receiving her BMus with Honours in 2011 and was awarded the Gilbert Webster
Prize. She is currently completing her MMus course at the same institution,
studying with Simone Rebello, Ian Wright, Dave Hassell, Paul Patrick and Liz
Gilliver. Natasa has also participated in master classes with Evelyn Glennie,
Nebosja Zivkovic, Eric Sammut and Pedro Carneiro amongst others.
She performs regularly with all the RNCM ensembles, including the Symphony
Orchestra, Concert Orchestra and the Percussion Ensemble. Natasa has had the
privilege to play in some of England’s most renowned concert venues such as
the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, as well as
in Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Turkey and Poland.
She has taught at the International Summer Academy of the Cyprus Youth
Symphony Orchestra and since 2009, after the relevant audition, she has been
admitted to the professional Cyprus Symphony Orchestra as an extra
percussionist. In the season 2011/12 she participated in the Halle
OrchestraProfessional Experience Scheme for percussion.
Just before entering her 4th year bachelor’s studies Natasa participated in the
MusXchange programme in a project of the Sinfonia Juventus, Poland. She
considers this to have been a significant experience in several ways:
•
•
•
•
As a training to adapt quickly to new, professional environments
She formed excellent impressions from the hosting orchestra on a
personal and professional level.
As the only MusXchange student in the specific project, she played a large
role in bringing her Polish colleagues in direct contact with the
MusXchange programme and encouraging them to participate.
She was thrilled by the opportunity to work under Krzysztof Penderecki.
