Domaine de la Coquillade, a “Relais & Chateaux " luxury residence ***** located in
the heart of the Luberon, wine tourism country, invites you to enjoy a special time
in surroundings offering luxury, tranquillity and serenity. The property unveils a
hamlet of six residences with sumptuously decorated rooms and suites, the oldest
of which is from the eleventh century.
Lovers of nature and open spaces will be filled with the magic of the site. From the
gardens, terraces and pool, the view of the Luberon, Monts de Vaucluse and Mont
Ventoux is exceptional.
The History, the Story
Facing the Luberon, on one of the hills of the Monts de Vaucluse, La Coquillade has
been home to generations of wine producers dating back to the thirteenth century.
The property is a crossing point for migratory birds and the charming hotel gets its
name from the Provençal word for crested lark, “Couquihado.”
The hamlet was built on a hill encircled by vineyards over a period of centuries. It
was acquired in 2007 by Andreas Rihs, entrepreneur and Swiss financier, and has
undergone major construction and restoration. Managers Carmen and Werner
Wunderli, Swiss by origin but Provençal at heart, have put all their energy into
realizing this ambitious project, which is now complete. Now in its fifth year of
existence, the hotel offers high-quality service in an exceptional environment.
Concept and Ecology
Domaine de la Coquillade has been restored with respect for the authenticity of the
site and using only quality materials. Sobriety and sophistication are the spirit of the
property.
While offering the maximum level of comfort to its guests with modern and
aesthetic amenities, La Coquillade has chosen to respect the environment: the main
source of the property’s energy is geothermal, combined with solar energy and
natural gas.
In 2011 and 2012, all cleaning products used on the property will be certified
organic. Renewable energy, eco-products, recycling of water for use in the garden,
waste sorting... many environmental policies have been put into effect to obtain the
European "Ecolabel.”
Rooms and Suites
The hotel, made up of six historic country houses renovated with respect for their
Provençal authenticity, offers 28 suites and rooms, each unique and spacious,
decorated in a warm and contemporary style. The finest materials, solid woods and
precious fabrics are combined with modern design and cutting-edge technology.
The biggest names in decor (Starck, Duravit, Manutti, Dedon...) and fabrics (Frey,
Manuel Canovas, Rubelli, Zimmer & Rohde) were chosen for the renovation of the
premises.
The two deluxe suites are equipped with whirlpool bath, and either a private
outdoor jacuzzi or a private outdoor pool and jacuzzi with a garden.
Gourmet Tables
La Coquillade’s restaurants come in two different atmospheres, chic and gourmet at
"Gourmet", casual at "Le Bistrot et son Jardin dans les Vignes" (brand new
restaurant opening June 2013).
Christophe Renaud, a young chef who learned his trade at Haeberlin (L'Auberge de
l'Ill in Illhaeusern) and in Rabanel (L’Atelier in Arles), serves cuisine with
Mediterranean overtones that he has skilfully customised and modernized with
subtlety. He serves fresh seasonal vegetables and fruit, organic meats and wild fish
of the Mediterranean; beet gaspacho with Granny Smith apple, roasted monkfish
tail and chard leaf with Italian pancetta, knuckle of veal confit and banana egg rolls
with Espelette pepper and passion fruit sauce are all part of the refined and daring
repertoire of his gourmet table. In 2011 he gets its first “star” as a nice reward for
his work and passion.
The "Must-Visit" Sites of La Coquillade
AURETO Wine Cellar: The estate and its cellar, with AOC (guaranteed quality label)
vines spread over 30 hectares in Ventoux and the Luberon, have been redefined
with new farming (integrated farm management), wine making and assembly
methods. Know-how combined with new technologies has brought finesse and
balance to our wines.
For an exceptional gourmet experience, enjoy our “Sentier Vigneron” path through
the vineyard and pair it with a gourmet food and wine tasting workshop.
BMC: A showcase of the famous Swiss brand BMC, the La Coquillade shop offers
rental of high-end road bikes and mountain bikes, and sale of BMC accessories. The
"must-have" for fans of cycling, on which to best discover the most beautiful roads
of the Luberon.
