Near Field Probes
Near Field Probes TRD series probes Features ■■ Ideal for carbon steel fin-fan tubes ■■ No need for a reference probe or extension ■■ Excellent detection of internal corrosion and axial cracks based on sensitivity of eddy current to lift-off (or fill-factor) Standard near field testing probe with stainless steel casing Lead RX coil Driver coil Trail RX coil ■■ Absolute and differential channels ■■ High-quality amplitude-based signals for very fast and simple data analysis ■■ Thick stainless-steel casing for increased wear resistance Eddy Current on thin ID layer only ■■ Compatible with the MultiScan MS 5800R instrument NOTE: These probes are not designed to detect OD defects or circumferential cracks. Sensitivity zone The all-new near field technique (NFT) eddy current technology is a rapid and inexpensive inspection solution designed specifically for ID defect detection in carbon steel fin-fan tubes. NFT probes cut costs and improve ease of use because they do not require expensive and cumbersome externally referenced coils. This new technology, which is based on a simple eddy current driver/pickup design, provides signals that are very easy to analyze. Because NFT probes operate within the same frequency range as remote field technique (RFT) probes, NFT probes are manufactured for use with the standard MultiScan MS 5800 RFT connector. TRD-170-300-N30 Probe diameter (17 mm) Cable Length (30 m) Also available: 20 m Probe Outside Diameter Standard probe diameters are available from 16.0 mm (0.63 in.) to 28.0 mm (1.10 in.). The part number shows the diameter in tenths of a millimeter (1/10 mm): therefore, 17.0 mm = “170”. The standard diameters available are listed in the chart below: Probe diameter (catalog) 160 170 180 220 240 260 280 300 Diameter value 16.0 mm (0.63 in.) 17.0 mm (0.67 in.) 18.0 mm (0.71 in.) 22.0 mm (0.87 in.) 24.0 mm (0.94 in.) 26.0 mm (1.02 in.) 28.0 mm (1.10 in.) 30.0 mm (1.18 in.) Probe Center Frequency The only available central frequency is 300 (300 Hz) and the frequency range is from 100 Hz to 1 kHz. Probe Cable Probe cable material is nylon (N) only. Cable lengths are in meters: 30 m (100 ft) is the most common length. Also available in a 20 m (65 ft) length. www.olympusNDT.com [email protected] Olympus NDT 48 Woerd Avenue • Waltham, MA 02453 • USA Tel.: (1) 781-419-3900 • Fax: (1) 781-419-3980 12569 Gulf Freeway • Houston, TX 77034 • USA Tel.: (1) 281-922-9300 • Fax: (1) 952-487-8877 Olympus NDT UK LTD. 12 Nightingale Close • Rotherham, South Yorkshire S60 2AB • UK Olympus Singapore PTE.
