Bruno van Pottelsberghe nommé Doyen de la Faculté
Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management
Bruxelles, le 19 Septembre 2011 – La Faculté Solvay Brussels School of Economics &
Management (SBS-EM) à l’honneur d’annoncer la nomination de M. Bruno van Pottelsberghe
en tant que Doyen. M. van Pottelsberghe sera aidé dans son mandat par le vice-Doyen, Michel
Verstraeten. Le duo a été élu en juin suite aux élections décanales. Ils prennent aujourd’hui
fonction officiellement.
Bruno van Pottelsberghe succède ainsi à Mathias Dewatripont, appelé à de hautes fonctions
au sein de la Banque Nationale de Belgique. M. van Pottelsberghe devient le deuxième Doyen
de la plus jeune Faculté de l’ULB, créée en 2008, suite à la fusion de l’Ecole de Gestion
(Solvay Business School) et du département d’Economie de la Faculté SOCO. Son mandat
sera placé sous le signe de l’amélioration des processus, du développement d’un Esprit de
corps, et axé vers une amélioration du positionnement international de la Faculté.
Détenteur d’un Doctorat en économie, M. Bruno van Pottelsberghe est titulaire de la Chaire
Solvay SA d’innovation technologique, et enseigne à ce titre des cours liés à l’innovation et à
la propriété intellectuelle. Il a été vice-Doyen de la SBS-EM et auparavant vice-Président de la
Solvay Business School, Directeur du MBA, fondateur du Part-Time MBA, et Directeur des
relations internationales. Il a été Chief Economist de l’Office Européen du Brevet (à Munich) et
est Senior Fellow auprès du think-tank européen Bruegel. L’expérience internationale de M.
van Pottelsberghe s’est forgée lors de nombreuses positions de visiting researcher ou visiting
professor, notamment au Japon (Hitotsubashi University, METI), aux Etats-Unis (Columbia
Business School), en Afrique du Sud (Stellenbosh University) et plusieurs universités
françaises et espagnoles. M. van Pottelsberghe est auteur de nombreuses publications
scientifiques et dirige plusieurs thèses de doctorat.
M. Michel Verstraeten est Professeur de GRH, de comportement organisationnel et de
leadership, ainsi que Directeur académique de plusieurs programmes proposés par Solvay
Executive Education. Il a également été Directeur académique du Master en Ingénieur de
gestion de la Solvay Brussels School. Il est par ailleurs Directeur du Centre de sociologie des
organisations et exerce une activité de conseil en GRH et organisation.

Bruno van Pottelsberghe becomes Dean of the Solvay
Brussels School of Economics and Management Faculty
Brussels, 19th of September 2011 – The Solvay Brussels School of Economics & Management
(SBS-EM) is proud to announce the nomination of M. Bruno van Pottelsberghe as Faculty
Dean. M. van Pottelsberghe will be helped in his mandate by the vice-Dean, Michel
Verstraeten. The duo was elected in June after Deanery elections. They will assume these
new functions starting today officially.
Thus, Bruno van Pottelsberghe succeeds Mathias Dewatripont, called to high office within the
National Bank of Belgium. M. van Pottelsberghe becomes the second Dean of the youngest
Faculty of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, created in 2008, from the merging of the
Management department (Solvay Business School) and the Economics department. His
mandate will tend towards the improvement of processes, developing a fellowship (Esprit de
corps) and heightening international awareness of the Faculty
Ph.D. in Economy, M. Bruno van Pottelsberghe is Holder of the Solvay SA Chair of Innovation
and teaches in that respect several classes linked to technological innovation and intellectual
proprety. He has been vice-Dean of SBS-EM and, prior to this, vice-President of the Solvay
Business School, Director of the MBA, founder of the part-time MBA, and Director of
International Relations. He also was Chief Economist for the European Patent Office (Munich)
and is Senior Fellow at the European Think-Tank Bruegel. The international experience of M.
van Pottelsberghe was build upon several visiting researcher or visiting professor positions,
most notably in Japan (Hitotsubashi University, METI), in the United-States (Columbia
Business School), in South Africa (Stellenbosh University) and in a number of French and
Spanish universities. M. van Pottelsberghe is the author of numerous scientific publications
and directs many PhD’s researches.
M. Michel Verstraeten is Professor in Human Resources Management, Organisational
Behaviour and Leadership, as well as Academic Director of several programmes proposed by
Solvay Executive Education. He also was Academic Director of the Master in Business
Engineering of Solvay Brussels School. Outside of his academic duties, M. Verstraeten is
Director of the Center for the Sociology of Organisations and provides consultancy services in
regards to HR management and organisation.
