Veteran’s Day Assembly - Thursday, November 10
Parents and Veterans are
invited to attend a celebration to
honor the service of our
nation’s veterans at 0900 hours
in the elementary cafeteria
Doors open at 8:30AM for seating in the handicapped accessible

and chorus songs will highlight the event!
In advance of November 10, we would
like to have students bring in pictures, mementos, etc. from relatives
that are veterans. Please make sure
they are labeled and sent to school as
soon as possible so that we can prepare the displays.

special arrangements.
Peer mediators being trained
Conflict is a natural and unavoidable part of daily life and can be used as an opportunity for
growth and learning. The Peer Mediation program recognized that students can learn to
resolve their own conflicts peacefully.
Students often become overwhelmed by the conflicts they face with their peers. Who gets
to be first? Why are they laughing at me? They are intimidated by those who are bigger,
smarter or faster. Conflicts often occur in classrooms, cafeteria, halls or on the playground.
Peer Mediation is a process that trains students to assist in conflict resolution. The peer
mediator does not solve the problem, but is trained to assist the disputants in communicating with each other and solving their own problems.
The Peer Mediation process is confidential and students who are referred must agree to work hard to solve the problem.
If there is physical fighting, peer mediators do not get involved. The peer mediator’s job is not to solve problems for
other students, but to help other students think of ways to solve problems for themselves.
Greenwood Elementary has four new peer mediators in training. They are Asna Tauseef, Thomas Strong, Grace Lesh
and Daniel Ritzman. As soon as their training is complete, they will be formally introduced to students and staff.
