Just when it seemed that winter celebrations were over, we begin another
chapter of fun and excitement! January at Children’s Garden Nursery School is
going to be full of the songs, games and stories of Quebec’s Winter Carnival. We
will learn all about the history, traditions and events that make up this wonderful,
winter carnival. Though many years older, the first official edition of the Québec
Winter Carnival in its modern form took place in 1955. That year, Bonhomme was
elected the event’s representative. Carnaval de Québec 2015 runs from January
30th - February 15th.

Bonhomme! Bonhomme! is a traditional audience participation song that was sung in Quebec City as
early as the 1600s. There are several versions known in Canada with various lyrics and variations in
the melody. In this version, the singer asks the Bonhomme (to whom the song is addressed) whether
he can play a musical instrument. He mimes the playing of several instruments and imitates their
Sounds.
