Developing Management Skills
Objectives :
At the end of this module, the student will have understood and be able to explain (main concepts)
The basic rules of business law and / or
The objectives, principles and means of marketing
and / or
The principles and procedures of financial diagnosis
and / or investment
The student will be able to :
Apply principles and rules of management and law in simple situations. Take into account the parameters of the management (customer needs, cost effectiveness and legal
compliance).
Description :
Programme (detailed contents) :
The unit contains three modules : Marketing, Company Law, Finance.
Marketing :
Definition, stakes and limits of marketing. Knowledge of the market.
Marketing strategy : product, price, distribution, communication.
Company law :
Legal entities.
Main contracts and institutions in business.
Risk and Responsibility.
Finance :
The financial diagnosis : Analysis of balance sheet. The break-even point. Analysis of profit or loss account. The capacity for self-financing. Management & structure ratios.
Investing and financing : Investment process and criteria.. Particular cases. Financial decisions & Leverage effect.
Organisation :
6 sessions of 2 h 30 per module.
Main difficulties for students :
Students have difficulty in becoming familiar with the legal vocabulary. They need concrete examples to go beyond the abstract nature of the subject matter.
Assessment :
How do you assess that the objectives have been reached ?
Case studies - written exam in business law and finances, report and oral presentation in Marketing.
How does your assessment system help the student to reach the objectives?
The knowledge assessment is based on real case studies ; it is a good way of testing the ability of put knowledge to use.
