Comment avez-vous appréhendé cet espace ? Richard Serra J’ai été submergé par cet espace que je n’avais jamais visité quand il était vide et qui m’est vraiment apparu comme un défi. Je me suis même demandé si ça allait être possible d’y travailler, de le structurer et de gérer sa dimension. (…) Une des choses que je voulais faire consistait à gérer les dimensions du contexte avec le potentiel de mon travail. Je devais donc trouver une échelle pour cet espace qui est vécu de manière très différente de tout autre espace. Quand un espace est ouvert, nous avons tendance à le traverser en passant par son axe principal. Quand un espace est fermé par des murs, votre corps l’habite différemment. L’architecture du Grand Palais est encore différente. La transparence de sa lumière vous procure une sensation de légèreté et de liberté quand vous le traversez.
