The man I love est un standard composé en 1924 par George Gershwin ; les
paroles sont de son frère Ira Gershwin.
Cette chanson fut intégrée à différentes comédies musicales américaines (la
première étant « Lady be good »).
Elle devient populaire à Londres et à Paris avant de remporter enfin un grand
succès aux Etats-Unis.
Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald l’on chantée, ainsi
que Liza Minelli (filleule d’Ira Gershwin) dans le film « New-York New-York ».
Ce thème a été enregistré près de 720 fois par de nombreux artistes
chanteurs ou musiciens du milieu du jazz mais aussi par des artistes venus
d’autres horizons.
