We are pleased to invite you to our combined 2006 AGM and Eel Symposium held in
conjunction with Westcountry Rivers Trust in support of the Indicang project.
The programme starts with our second Annual General Meeting at 11.30 a.m., which will
incorporate the formal business required of an incorporated company and a short
presentation of ART’s activities during the last year. Although only registered members
are entitled to vote, all are welcome to attend and participate. ART membership is open
to all, and we would be delighted to welcome individuals and organisations as registered
members in due course.
The AGM will be followed by a buffet lunch and an afternoon of papers on the European
Eel, which is an incredibly important, but often under-valued species in the Atlantic area.
There has been a massive decline in the number of eels arriving at European rivers,
which has led to the pan-European Indicang project, part funded under the EU Interreg
IIIB programme. The project aims to gather all available information on eels to allow a
better understanding of the factors leading to the decline in populations and consequently
to help fisheries managers and policy makers manage the species and its environment
wisely.
We are delighted to hold the AGM and seminar at London Zoo, which is a prestigious
venue and a recognised centre of excellence for eel research, and we hope that you will

l’anguille européenne’’

Nous avons le plaisir de vous inviter à notre assemblée générale de l’année 2006 au
cours de laquelle se tiendra le symposium sur l’anguille animé par Westcountry Rivers
Trust dans le cadre du soutien apporté au programme Indicang.
Nous commencerons le programme par la réunion de l’assemblée générale numéro 2 à
11h30. Celle ci comprendra les formalités habituelles auxquelles une société enregistrée
doit se soumettre ainsi qu’une brève présentation des activités de l’ART qui ont eu lieu au
cours de l’année écoulée. Bien que seuls les membres inscrits aient le droit de voter, tout
le monde est cordialement invité à assister à cette réunion et à participer. L’ART est
ouverte à tous, et nous serons ravis de pouvoir ajouter à notre liste de nouveaux
membres, qu’il s’agisse d’individus ou d’associations, ceux-ci pouvant s’inscrire quand
bon leur semblera.
Après l’assemblée générale un buffet sera à votre disposition pour le déjeuner. L’après
midi sera animé par des exposés sur l’anguille européenne. Celle-ci demeure une espèce
de la zone Atlantique très importante mais souvent sous-estimée. On enregistre une
diminution énorme du nombre d’anguilles arrivant dans les rivières d’Europe. De ce déclin
est né le projet paneuropéen Indicang en partie subventionné par le programme de
L’union Européenne Interreg IIIB. Ce projet a pour but de rassembler toutes les
informations disponibles sur l’anguille afin d’aboutir à une meilleure compréhension des
facteurs qui mènent au déclin de cette population et d’aider les responsables de la pêche
ainsi que ceux qui élaborent les politiques à gérer cette espèce avec prudence.
A notre grand plaisir cette assemblée générale et ce séminaire se dérouleront au zoo de
Londres, le London Zoo. Ce prestigieux lieu d’accueil est reconnu comme centre
d’excellence dans le domaine de la recherche sur l’anguille et nous espérons que vous
