Athlete Profile/Biographie d’athlète CHRIS SPRING Position/Poste: Pilot Height/Taille: 1.80 m Weight/Poids: 101 kg Date of Birth/ Date de naissance: March 6, 1984 Place of Birth/Ville natale: Darwin NT, Australia Residence/Résidence: Calgary Hometown: Calgary Twitter: https://twitter.com/BobTeamSpring Web site/site web: www.bobteamspring.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bobsleigh-TeamSpring/178445872227426 BACKGROUND: Chris got involved in the sport of bobsleigh while living in Calgary for a year on a working visa when he watched the 2007 Canadian Championships. He was immediately hooked and quickly began researching how to get involved. Chris’ foundation in bobsleigh began in 2008 when he took the driving school in Calgary to learn the fundamentals of driving the sled. He competed on the development circuits for the next two years and competed for Australia at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Chris is now focused on the next step in his pursuit of excellence and relishes the opportunity to represent Canada on the international circuit. He can’t wait to sing “Oh Canada” on the podium one day. A rookie pilot on the World Cup last season, Team Spring impressed while regularly placed the Canada 2 sled in the top-10 before sustaining a horrific season-ending crash during training in Altenberg, Germany. When not training or competing, Chris loves to play guitar. Although he admits he has a terrible voice, he does love to write songs and sing. He once raced a Kangaroo over 100-metres, and quickly learned that hopping is MUCH FASTER than running. Chris works a carpenter during the summer. He loves shooting hoops, playing Australian football with his mates in Calgary, snowboarding, skiing, and just being anywhere in the mountains.
