A: Hi How are you?
B: I’m fine. How are you?
A: Good.
B: What can I do for you?
A: What’s the local restaurant like?
B: It’s very welcoming and the food is excellent. I eat there quite often.
A: That sounds great can you help me with a few words & phrases?
B: Of course, what do you want to know?
A: Well I can make a reservation so I was thinking more about how to order things
and how I’d like the meat cooked – things like that.
B: Well what will possibly happen is that once you are seated is that Tatiana will give
you the menu and say “Désirez-vous un aperitif?” – Would you like an aperitif? Or
“Voulez-vous un aperitif”? It means the same.
A: I always like the drinks with “cassis” in but forget what they’re called.
B: Just say “je voudrais un kir ».
A : « Je voudrais un kir » – that’s great. I’m sure I can use the menu to order a
steak but I get confused when they ask how you would like it cooked.
B: Well if you want it very rare that’s” bleu”.
A:” Bleu” – very rare.
B: If you want it rare that’s “saignant”
A: ”Saignant” – rare
B: If you want it medium that’s “‘à point”.
A: “À point” – medium ....
B: .... and ‘bien cuit’ is well done but the French prefer not to overcook their meat
and the meat is so good here that having it “bien cuit” often spoils it.
A: Could you just jot those down for me so that I don’t forget which is which.
B: No problem – there you are.

R:Bonjour madame avez-vous réservé?
B : Oui, J’ai téléphoné cet après midi je m’appelle Madame Williams
A : Ah oui je me souviens, deux couverts.
B : Est-ce que l’on peut s’installer près de la fenêtre ?
A :Oui bien sur. Voici la carte. Vous désirez un apéritif ?
B : Oui, un kir et un gin tonic.
A : D’accord

R : Voila le kir et le gin tonic. Vous avez choisi ?
A : Oui mon ami prendra une assiette nordique et pour moi ça sera du paté.
R : Bien, et ensuite ?
A : Nous prendrons un faux filet avec des frites et un agneau avec des pommes
sautés.
R : Le cuisson du faux filet?
A: A point s’il vous plait.
R : et l’agneau ?
A : Bien cuit s’il vous plait.
R : Très bien et comme boisson ? Je vous apporte la carte du vin.
A : Non merci, on va prendre un pichet de vin rouge et une carafe d’eau.
R : Vous désirez autre chose ?
A : Oui un demi-litre de vin rouge et une carafe d’eau.
R : Ça a été ? Vous prendrez un dessert, un café ?
A : Non merci. L’addition s’il vous plait.
