SA MPLE PROJECT S Scientific Engineering T and V i s u a l i z at i o n h e te c h n i q u e s or modelling, simulation and optimization have become essential tools for the analysis and design of products and systems. In this context, this line of research is concerned with complex systems modelled by equations with partial derivatives or dynamic systems with uncertainties, with robust/multi-objective optimization techniques and control and with associated preand post-treated environments. Two key projects have been developed: Digiplante in relation with INRIA, the CIRAD, AgroParisTech and the LIAMA in Beijing, based on modelling the growth of plants from the genome to the countryside; and the major CSDL (Complex System Design Lab) pluri-disciplinary project of the System@tic Pole where the laboratory coordinates the approaches to modelling, determinist or probabilistic simulation and advanced decisional visualization to efficiently explore vast areas of design. I n f o r m at i o n P r o c e s s i n g – D ata and source CSDL : Simulations for the design of an air-conditioning system in an aircraft cabin Images T he processing of information (data, images, biological) with new mathematical tools is one of the major scientific challenges. In collaboration with hospitals (SHFJ, Henri Mondor, Saint Louis) and industrial partners (Siemens, Myosis/Genzyme), the Galen and MA∫BIO teams aim to develop mathematical models which allow exploitation and interpretation of biological and medical data. Two other areas are also the subject of two important projects - one is quantitative finance using very innovative techniques in econophysics on very high frequency data in the framework of an industrial Chair with BNP Parisbas; the other, in collaboration with INRIA and Supélec, is the detailed modelling of the probabilistic regularity and consideration of uncertainties in the models. source GALEN : Comparison of techniques on cerebral images I n f o r m at i o n S y s t e m s A r c h i t e ct u r e I n the face of very fast technological developments and the progress in the field of software, information systems have seen major developments in terms of architectures and operating modes. This theme, in the field of Business Intelligence and in the framework of a Chair with SAPBusinessObjects, concerns new architectures for the cluster-grill or cloud-computing, architectures and treatment of large masses of information, notably multimedia, and also formal engineering approaches to complex systems. The laboratory is involved in a number of European initiatives, particularly the EGEE, BEINGRID and PEGASE, and is expanding on HPC parallel architectures (e.g. the Open GPU project). source Regularity : Empiric regularity on mountain contours and simulation of the process with prescribed regularity source HPC Team : Parallel calculation of large acoustic models of noise in Tokyo source MASDOM : Representation of fuzzy spatial reasoning on patterns in medical images École Centrale Paris, Research Centre Report 2010 • 11
