CHIC MATIÈRE(S)
WINTER GROUP SHOW

— 17 . 01 . 2015
OPENING
THURSDAY DECEMBER 4TH
6—9 PM
GALERIE AGNÈS MONPLAISIR
SECOND ESPACE
40 RUE MAZARINE
75006 PARIS
For the second time, Agnès Montplaisir and Mouvements Modernes join
together to present CHIC MATIÈRE(S), an exhibition presented in Galerie Agnès
Monplaisir’s second venue at 40 rue Mazarine - Paris 6th. It will be, for the two
parisian galleries, the opportunity to show their common interest for the work
of artists and designers who explore the potentials of materials.
Glass, ceramic, tapestry, wood, metal… whatever materials that take shape
with contemporary artists such as Perrin & Perrin (glassworkers), Olga de
Amaral (textile designer), Garouste & Bonetti (designers), Merete Rassmussen
(ceramicist), Do Koenig Vassilakis, or Manuela Zervudachi (sculptor and furniture
designer)…
CHIC MATIÈRE(S) mixes with an assertive freedom and curiosity, works of art,
design pieces and furniture from the respective collections of the two galleries,
displayed to play on the juxtapositon of objects, artists and materials.

Olga de Amaral is a fully
integrated artist in her
country of origin. She has
sourced much of the raw
materials for her art from
Colombia, a land that
has been the crossroads
of several civilizations.
Leather, gold and silver
from this historic El Dorado
are delicately woven into
her tapestries.

by Pierre Cardin, he creates
for him the logo of his
atelier as well as a series
of furniture-sculptures.
Afterwards, Cante-Pacos
continues to work on
sculpture, in particular with
monumental artworks,
for example in the Paris
district of La Défense.

The repetition of the
rhythms, the graphic
movements and the taste
of geometry characterize
the work of Marcos Coelho
Benjamim. The artist uses
worn out materials with
rough surfaces, as the
zinc, the iron or the fabric,
whose irregularity adds a
tactile value to his works
often of large sizes. The
work of Benjamim reveals
an intense link with the
popular culture of Minas
Gerais and the wealth of
this state, in its tradition of
the crafts and the recycling
of materials.

“I am interested in the
way one defines and
comprehends space
through physical form.
My shapes can represent
an idea of a captured
movement, as a flowing
form stretching or curling
around itself, or the idea
can derive from repeated
natural forms or even
complex mathematical
constructions. Different
form expressions appeal
to me and results in my
continuous exploration
with many different
variations”.

Manuela Zervudachi was
born in London on 1963.
Since her childhood
Manuela chose sculpture
as the medium to express
herself.
Her work reveals a
fascination for man’s state,
his internal evolution,
within his environment. She
has worked successively
on the themes of nature
elements, symbolism in
the human body, Time, the
Seed and alchemy.
