Jérôme Ferrari
Né à Paris en 1968, Jérôme Ferrari, après avoir enseigné en Algérie puis en
Corse, occupe maintenant un poste à Abou Dhabi. Chez Actes Sud, il est
notamment l’auteur de Balco Atlantico (2008), Un dieu un animal (2009, prix
Landerneau) et Où j’ai laissé mon âme (2010, prix roman France Télévisions,
prix Initiales, prix Larbaud, grand prix Poncetton de la ), dont les droits
ont été cédés dans quatre langues.
Jérôme Ferrari was born in Paris in 1968. After teaching in Algeria and then
Corsica, he is now based in Abu Dhabi. His most notable books published by Actes
Sud are Balco Atlantico (2008), Un dieu un animal (2009) and Où j’ai laissé
mon âme (2010, winner of the prix roman France Télévisions, the prix Initiales,
the prix Larbaud, and the grand prix Poncetton de la SGDL, and published in
translation in four languages.

ersuadés qu’ils sont capables d’édifier ici-bas le meilleur des mondes possible, deux
amis d’enfance décident d’abandonner leurs études de philosophie à Paris pour rentrer chez eux et reprendre la gérance du bar du petit village corse dont ils sont originaires. Mais ce dérisoire empire, lieu de tous les souvenirs comme de tous les espoirs, se
voit bientôt ébranlé par les prémices de sa chute. Car c’est bientôt l’enfer qui s’invite au
comptoir, comme si une malédiction condamnait à se corrompre et à redevenir pitoyablement insulaires les rêves des hommes dès lors qu’ils créditent d’éternité les fragiles et
illusoires royaumes terrestres.
Chez Jérôme Ferrari, les ténèbres de l’âme humaine sont toujours éclairées par la
phrase. S’adressant tout autant à la sensibilité qu’à l’esprit, l’écrivain construit, de livre
en livre, une œuvre majeure dont ne cesse de s’affirmer la dimension universelle.
Convinced that they can build the best of possible worlds on this lowly earth, two childhood
friends decide to abandon their philosophy studies in Paris, go home to their small Corsican
village and run the local bar. But this pitiful empire, the seat of all memories as well as hopes, is
soon quivering with the early signs of its downfall… because what comes to the bar now is hell
itself, as if a terrible curse condemns all men’s dreams to being corrupted and reduced to a state
of pathetic insularity as soon as they dare attribute their fragile and illusory earthly kingdoms
with eternal life.
Jérôme Ferrari’s writing always sheds shining light over the darkest shadows of the human
heart. Speaking to the heart as much as to the mind, the author is building a major body of
work of universal appeal.
