BY BUS
Bus line: Ligne d’Azur N°100 or 81. Departure stop: Octroi facing the
Villefranche-sur-Mer stadium next to the Tourist Office.
How to reach the bus stop from Villefranche-sur-Mer cruise terminal: leave
the cruise terminal, turn to the right, stop in front of Chapelle Cocteau, cross
Place Amélie Pollonais, walk upstairs Gambetta and follow to the left rue Henri
Biais, (see the citadel) then turn to the right towards the Soap Factory “Terres
Dorées”. Follow av. Maréchal Joffre or av. Sadi Carnot to the main street. The bus
stop is next to the pharmacy on avenue Foch next to the Tourist Office. Estimate
a 5 to 10 minutes walk.

Par bus : ligne d’Azur N°100 ou 81 au départ de l’arrêt Octroi face au stade de
Villefranche-sur-Mer près de l’Office de Tourisme.
Comment accéder à l’arrêt de bus : en sortant du terminal de croisières, tournez
sur votre droite et arrêtez vous devant la Chapelle Cocteau. Traversez la Place
Amélie Pollonais face à la chapelle, montez les escaliers de la rue Gambetta puis
poursuivre sur votre gauche dans la rue Henri Biais. En bout de rue vous voyez la
Citadelle, tournez alors à droite en direction de la Savonnerie artisanale “Terres
Dorées”. Puis, au choix empruntez soit l’avenue Maréchal Joffre soit l’avenue Sadi
Carnot qui mène toutes deux à la rue principale. L’arrêt de bus se trouve avenue
Foch à côté de la Pharmacie et de l’Office de Tourisme. Compter 5 à 10 minutes
à pied.

From your destination bus stop in Beaulieu-sur-Mer at Kérylos.
Take the rue Gustave Eiffel to discover the Greek Villa Kérylos, reconstruction
of a luxurious place dating from 2 B.C., modelled on those found on the island
of Delos. It was erected between 1902 and 1908, according to the plans drawn
by Emmanuel Pontremoli for Théodore Reinach (visits are possible very day,
entrance fee €10, for further information please contact + 33 (0) 4 93 01 01
44). The architecture and the interior decoration of the villa are exquisite not
to mention the fabulous gardens directly overhanging the Mediterranean.
The visit takes about 2 hours.
Descendre du bus à l’arrêt Kérylos, s’engager dans la rue Gustave Eiffel où se
situe la résidence Eiffel dans laquelle vécut le constructeur de la plus célèbre
tour du monde !
Vous arrivez à la Villa Grecque Kérylos, reconstitution d’un luxueux palais de
l’île de Délos du IIème siècle avant J.C., édifiée entre 1902 et 1908, selon les
plans d’Emmanuel Pontremoli et pour le compte de Théodore Reinach (visite
possible tous les jours au tarif de 10 €, s’adresser à la Villa au + 33 (0) 4 93
01 01 44 pour les horaires selon les périodes). L’architecture et la décoration
intérieure sont admirables ainsi que les jardins surplombant la mer.
La visite dure environ 2 heures.
At the end of the visit, head to the left to the beach of the Baie des Fourmis
and line the square Verdun, rue Fernand Dunan, not forgetting to admire the
magnificent architecture of the old palace Le Bristol with its elegant reception
room La Rotonde (1899, architect : Tersling) that served as a hospital during
the war, ending up at the Grand Casino des Jeux (1929, architect: Ploussey).
Through the garden of square Verdun and find the pedestrian street rue du
Lieutenant Colonelli, continue until the Boulevard Maréchal Leclerc and turn
in your right after the railway bridge.
You arrive on Place Georges Clemenceau (train station and tourist office)
and admire the Palais des Anglais (1885). Then, take avenue Maréchal Foch
to arrive to the Place du Marché. Here, you will discover a typical Provencal
market exuding the beautiful aromas and scents of the south, the big market
is held every Saturday morning.
In the square there is also a superb “Kiosque à Musique” (Bandstand)
constructed in 1904 (architect : Joseph Bovis, wrought-iron craftsmen:
Gianetto and Fassio), at the bottom of the square you can find the bust
of Hippolyte Marinoni, the inventor of the rotary and the 1st Mayor of the
commune. Leaving the square go left and take the chemin des Myrtes, 100
meters down this lane you will come across the Saint-Michael Anglican
church, erected in 1893 and designed by the architects Temple Moore and
Aaron Messiah. Return in the direction you came, passing by place Marinoni
and head towards the steps of the rue du Marché (under the train tracks).
Ensuite repartir le long de la plage de la Baie des Fourmis en

Dunan, sans oublier d’admirer la magnifique architecture de l’ancien palace Le
Bristol et de sa salle de réception La Rotonde (1899, architecte Tersling) qui a
servi d’hôpital durant la guerre, pour se diriger vers le Grand Casino des Jeux
(1929, architecte Ploussey).
Retourner sur vos pas et traverser le jardin Verdun pour emprunter
la rue piétonne du Lieutenant Colonelli, continuer votre chemin vers le
Boulevard Maréchal Leclerc jusqu’au pont du chemin de fer. Ensuite tourner
à droite pour arriver sur la place Clemenceau (gare SNCF/Office de Tourisme)
et le magnifique Palais des Anglais (1885).
Prendre l’avenue Maréchal Foch et arriver sur la place du Marché.
Tous les matins (sauf le dimanche en hors saison) vous découvrirez le marché
provençal et ses senteurs (grand marché le samedi matin).
Découvrez sur cette place un superbe Kiosque à Musique qui date de 1904
(architecte Bovis, ferronniers Gianetto et Fassio) au fond de la place est
installé le buste d’Hippolyte MARINONI (inventeur de la rotative), 1er maire de
la commune.
Se diriger sur la gauche et emprunter le chemin des Myrtes. A 100 mètres vous
découvrirez l’Église anglicane Saint-Michael, érigée en 1893 et conçue par les
architectes Temple Moore et Aaron Messiah. Redescendre en traversant à
nouveau la place Marinoni et se diriger vers les escaliers de la rue du Marché

(sous la voie ferrée).
Puis emprunter la rue Gallieni qui longe l’Église du Sacré-Cœur avec à ses
côtés la chapelle romane Sancta Maria de Olivo. Cette dernière est dédiée à la
Vierge Marie, elle date du IXème siècle et abrite des expositions tout au long
de l’année. L’Église du Sacré-Cœur a été construite en 1899 par l’architecte
berlugan Joseph Bovis.
Face à ses deux édifices religieux, le superbe hôtel de luxe La Réserve (1880).
Redescendre le boulevard Maréchal Leclerc en direction du Port de Plaisance
situé sous l’Hôtel de Ville en prenant les petits escaliers sur la droite pour
rejoindre le Quai Whitechurch.
Vous longerez alors les quais près desquels vous pourrez admirer les
superbes bateaux de ce port (800 anneaux) et sa galerie commerciale qui
abrite de nombreux restaurants.
Au fond, la plage de la Petite Afrique vous invite à la baignade. Remonter
sur la route et traverser les deux tronçons pour se diriger vers le jardin de
l’Olivaie, rue Jean Bracco (visible par le magnifique portail qui orne son entrée)
et goûter aux plaisirs de la détente au milieu de ce parc complanté de plus de
100 oliviers centenaires.

Continue to the end of the steps taking the rue Gallieni where you will find the
Église du Sacré-Cœur and right next to it the Roman chapel Sancta Maria de
Olivo. The latter, as the name suggests, is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and
dates back to the 9th century. It now hold art exhibitions all year long.
The Église du Sacré-Cœur was constructed in 1899 by the architect Joseph
Bovis.
Facing these two extraordinary edifices is the superb luxury hotel La Réserve
(1880). Carry on down the boulevard Maréchal Leclerc in the direction of the
pleasure marina, which is located beneath the townhall, using the small steps
to the Whitechurch Quay.
Walk along the docks closed to magnificent yachts and discover the shopping
mall and famous restaurants.
At the end of the quay the large beach “La Petite Afrique” tempts you for a
swim. Return to the road and traverse two crossings to head in the direction
of the jardin de l’Olivaie, rue Jean Bracco (easily spotted by the highly ornate
entrance gate) and enjoy a moment of relaxation within this beautiful park
boasting more than 100 hundred year old olive trees.
The visit is completed.
