Brand new for 2013 is the “discover Saft app” that enables visitors to the stand to explore the essence of Saft’s technological leadership and unrivalled experience. On display, on stand D137 in Hall 2b, is a wide range of Saft’s proven nickel‐based and new high power lithium‐ion (Li‐ion) batteries developed to support advanced on‐board functions in applications including the following: Aircraft: Some two‐thirds of the world’s fleet of civil and military aircraft are equipped with Saft batteries to provide high peak power for autonomous engine or APU starting as well as emergency back‐up power. Saft offers over 130 OEM approved battery designs suiting virtually every requirement, all optimized for energy and power, and with guaranteed integration to the specific aircraft and/or helicopter electrical architecture, thanks to the close cooperation developed between Saft’s engineering teams and major aircraft OEM across the entire product life cycle. Satellites: Saft on‐board batteries power the satellite’s payload during in‐orbit eclipse phases when solar panels are unable to provide sufficient power. Saft offers advanced battery solutions that provide a very long ‘on‐standby’ shelf‐life covering all satellite applications from GEO (geostationary) telecommunication satellites, through MEO (medium earth orbit) to LEO (low earth orbit missions). Saft pioneered Li‐ion batteries in space applications and now has over 10 years of practical experience and more than 1.3 MWh of systems currently in‐orbit. Launch vehicles: Saft high‐technology batteries are a perfect match for launch vehicles where they power avionics, cryopumps and pyrotechnic safety functions as well as delivering the high power essential for TVC (Thrust Vector Control) systems.
