“Bistrots de Pays”: Rustic Bistros
The wish to help rediscover the village cafes was born in 1993 in the Alpes de HauteProvence department. It resulted in the creation of a national label, “Bistros de Pays” and
of the Fédération Nationale des Bistrots de Pays (FNBP).
The purpose of this project is to help conserve and keep the economic fabric in rural
areas.
In Pyrénées-Orientales, there are 41 "bistros" that are gathered in a similar structure
conducted in the Pyrenees territories of Agly, Terres Romanes and Pays Méditerranée.
This project is conducted in partnership with FNBP, Pays d’Agly, Pays d’accueil AglyVerdouble, Pays d’accueil Haut-Fenouillèdes, Pays Terres Romanes, Pays Méditerranée
and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Perpignan and the Pyrénées-Orientales
(sub-branch in Prades).
"Bistros de Pays" label
• Places of cultural life, service and idea exchange, “Bistrots de pays” are true
ambassadors of their territory. With their convivial ambiance and warm welcome,
village bistros will offer you a variety of services throughout the year.
• A tourist information point: they will provide you with sound advice, a selection of
brochures, a space with displays for visiting tourists or other residents in the territory.
• Local products: “Bistrots de pays” are a showcase of local products selected with
producers and offer food tastings (tapas, snacks), available also in the menus of
bistro-restaurants.
• Entertainment: all “Bistrots de pays” organise cultural events and festivals.
• A local service provider: in case of failure of local shops, “Bistrots de pays” take over
and provide essential services to the population (sale of bread, stamps, groceries...).
