A2 French – Summer Work 2014 instructions
1. Complete the Verb revision – Summer Work Excel sheet (to find it, go to the CRL –
Languages – French – A2 – VSn).
Fill in the boxes, if your answer is correct, the box will automatically turn green, if not, it will
remain white, please record (as instructed on the sheet) if you got the answer right first time
(1) or not (0).
Once completed please return to me via email before the start of term:

This will give you revision of key verbs in key tenses and will also allow me a chance to
assess your current knowledge (therefore please be honest!)
2. Read Charlotte Gray
This will give you a real insight into life in France during the Second World War and will help
to broaden your general understanding of the period which will help to put the course that
we study into context.
3. Use the A4 ‘leaflet’ to help you research the key themes of the Second World War in
France.
I’m not looking for a huge, in-depth amount of research but it is really important that you
start to gain an understanding of what can be a complicated period of French history. The
more understanding that you have the more you will be able to analyse and evaluate the
key themes of the course.

1. Find two articles in French about environmental issues and summarise ready to present to
the class in our first lesson. Newspaper websites such as L’Express, Le Monde and le
Nouvel Observateur are a good place to start.

La Seconde Guerre Mondiale en
France
Avant de commencer vos études de cette période cruciale et fascinante dans l’histoire de la
France, il faut découvrir certains faits fondamentaux et obtenir une idée générale de ce qui
se passait à cette époque.
Pendant les vacances :
1. Lisez le livre : Charlotte Gray (en anglais), il vous donnera une très bonne
idée des aspects différents de la vie en France pendant la Seconde Guerre
Mondiale
2. Utilisez cette feuille comme guide pour rechercher la période (répondez
aux questions dans les boîtes fournies)
Une guerre mondiale: Quand ?
Où ? Qui ?
L’occupation allemande de la France: Quand ? Où ? L’armistice ? Vichy ?
Qui étaient les personnages clés?: le Général de Gaulle, le Maréchal Pétain,
Jean Moulin, Lucie Aubrac …
Le traitement des juifs : Vel d’Hiv, Drancy…
Qu’est-ce que vous avez appris en lisant ‘Charlotte Gray’ : la vie quotidienne
des français, la résistance…
