The NPKI (National Public Key Infrastructure) is a set of software and equipment which permit to identify and secure electronic applications. This infrastructure, already installed in Cameroon, is the fruit of the agreement between Cameroon and the Republic of Korea. Actually, the schedule of the PKI project is going on with the organization of the first information and sensitization’s workshop which started yesterday in Yaounde and is meant for persons in charge of information systems in Cameroonian public administrations, owning electronic applications. A similar workshop will be organized in Douala. Engineers in telecommunications and computer sciences, network and system administrators, programmers, software developers and auditors will end the workshop tomorrow with knowledge on the use of PKI. For this purpose, they have to take inspiration from the Korean model, which is actually the leader in electronic exchanges. The workshop is organized by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MINPOSTEL) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). At the beginning of this workshop, the Secretary General of MINPOSTEL, Edouard Ebah Abada, who chaired the ceremony, urged seminarists to participate fully in this workshop because “one is truly safe when he uses what he masters well”, he declared. For the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cameroon, Cho June-Hyuck, “the Cameroonian government and Cameroonians as a whole will be able to securely and privately exchange data through the use of a public and private cryptographic key pair that will be obtained and shared through a trusted authority”. He announced in his speech that after the workshop, the Korean government through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will provide maintenance for this equipment for 2 years and will continue to assist Cameroon in the introduction and expansion of this infrastructure. Concerning the modalities of access to the PKI, “all institutions that have e-applications, notably bank transactions, sending and delivery of money institutions can have access to this infrastructure to secure their system and application”, said Denis Ngae, Director of Infrastructures and access networks to Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in MINPOSTEL. The PKI is managed by National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC).
