Après deux succès d’étape en 2013 à Ebolowa et Mouila, le Belge a remporté une troisième victoire aujourd’hui à Port-­‐Gentil qui accueillait pour la première fois l’épreuve gabonaise. Derrière Yohann Gène, recordman du nombre de victoires sur la Tropicale (6 étapes), Frédérique Robert est désormais seul à en avoir remporté trois. Une performance à laquelle il attache beaucoup d’importance. «La Tropicale est une course qui me plaît, dit-­‐il, je m’y sens bien en début de saison et les routes sont parfaites pour moi. J’ai été un peu handicapé en début de semaine car le parcours était plus vallonné mais aujourd’hui j’ai retrouvé mes repères de sprinters sur ce circuit dans les rues de Port-­‐Gentil. Ca lance bien ma saison.» Frédérique Robert présente aussi l’originalité d’être venu sur la Tropicale pour le compte de trois équipes différentes : QuickStep en 2011, Lotto-­‐Belisol en 2013 et Wanty-­‐Groupe Gobert cette année. Sa fidélité au Gabon a donc payé tout comme le sérieux de son équipe qui a remporté ainsi sa troisième étape depuis le début de la semaine après Jérôme Baugnies à Oyem et Roy Jans à Lambaréné. Les Belges sont donc gâtés du voyage. Aujourd’hui un match dans le match s’est également déroulé pour le compte du classement général qui n’a jamais été aussi indécis à la veille de l’arrivée finale demain à Libreville. En effet, Luis Leon Sanchez a perdu un peu de temps lors des sprints bonifications aujourd’hui dans les rues de Port-­‐Gentil, il se retrouve avec seulement une seconde d’avance sur Egoitz Garcia et quatre sur Natnael Berhane qui a remporté six secondes dans ces sprints pour se rapprocher encore plus de la tête du classement final. Tout se jouera donc demain dans les rues de Libreville sur une arrivée inédite devant le Lycée Léon Mba où est attendue la foule des grands jours. 3rd time for Robert!
