The Ontario Species at Risk Quick Reference Guide was prepared by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). This document provides a biological overview of some of the species at risk in Ontario. To date, this guide contains 65 species. Purpose
This document provides a brief overview of 65 species at risk in Ontario. Their biology, life history, threats and appearance are outlined in the document. Adaptations, Recommendations and Comments
This document was originally prepared to provide species at risk biological information to the general public; however, the information contained within the document may be useful to individuals seeking permits or agreements under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 (ESA) or with other authorizations issued under the Act (e.g. exemptions by regulation). This document lists the designation (e.g. threatened, endangered) of the species under the ESA. Status’s of species designations can change through time as they may be re‐assessed, and some of these designations may now be changed or change in the future. For the most current up‐to‐
date designation of each species at risk in Ontario individuals can view the Species at Risk in Ontario list online at: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/Species/2ColumnSubPage/276722.html More species may be added to this document over time and will be updated online as this occurs.
