Once upon a time there was a King and his three sons who were ready to marry. One day the King told
each of them to throw a stone far away and in the place where it fell they would find their future wives.
The oldest son‘s stone landed on a baker‘s roof so his wife would be a baker’s daughter; the second
son‘s stone landed near a weaver shop so his wife would be a weaver’s daughter and the youngest
son‘s stone landed in a well where he found a frog.
Il était une fois un roi qui avait trois fils à marier. Il les prit un jour à part et leur demanda de jeter
une pierre le plus loin possible. Il leur prédit qu’à l’endroit où tomberait cette pierre, ils trouveraient
leur future épouse.
La pierre du premier fils tomba sur le toit d’une boulangerie. Sa femme serait donc une boulangère. La
pierre du second fils tomba sur l’échoppe d’un tisserand. Sa femme serait donc tisserande. La pierre
du dernier fils tomba près d’une grenouille.
The King asked the two girls and the frog to complete some tasks such as spinning hemp and training
his dog‘s puppies. She, who would do best in all of the tasks would become the new Queen of the
Kingdom. The frog, amazingly, was the most successful and the king decided to fix the date of his
son’s weddings that very day.
Le roi demanda aux deux jeunes filles et à la grenouille de passer des épreuves. Il fallait filer le chanvre et dresser les chiots de son chien. Celle qui réussirait le mieux ces épreuves permettrait à son époux
de devenir le roi du royaume. Ce fut la grenouille qui gagna les épreuves. Le roi décida alors de fixer
la date du mariage de son fils le jour même.

On the day of the wedding the first and second princess arrived in a beautiful carriage pulled by four
horses. The frog, however was sitting on a fig leaf pulled by four snails. During the long journey the
youngest prince fell asleep and when he awoke a golden carriage had pulled up beside him. It was
drawn by two white horses, and inside was sitting a maiden as dazzling as the sun and dressed in an
emerald-green gown.
Le jour du mariage, la première et la deuxième princesse arrivèrent dans de somptueux attelages, tirés
par quatre chevaux. La grenouille quant à elle, arriva sur une feuille de figuier tirée par 4 escargots.
Durant le long trajet, le 3ème fils s’endormit. Lorsqu’il se réveilla, il se trouvait à côté d’un carrosse
doré, tiré par deux chevaux immaculés. A l’intérieur se tenait une merveilleuse princesse plus belle
que le jour. Elle était vêtue d’une robe étincelante toute brodée d’émeraudes.
“Who are you?” asked the youngest son. “I am the frog” came the reply and, since he couldn‘t believe
it, the maiden opened a jewel case containing the fig leaf, the frog skin, and four snail shells. “I was a
princess that turned into a frog. I only had a chance to get my human form back if a king‘s son would
agree to marry me the way I was.” The king was overjoyed! The youngest boy became king and the
princess his queen. Together they lived happily forever.
« Qui es-tu ? », demanda le prince. « Je suis la grenouille », répondit la jeune femme. Elle ouvrit un petit coffre à bijoux et lui montra une peau de grenouille, une feuille de figuier et 4 coquilles d’escargots.
Puis elle raconta : « J’avais été transformée en grenouille et ne pouvait retrouver mon apparence que
si un prince acceptait de m’épouser sous la forme d’une grenouille. » Le roi fut incroyablement heureux. Le plus jeune prince et sa princesse devinrent les nouveaux roi et reine du royaume.
