Le Causatif Présentation de la matière : La prof l'a faite en anglais mais je vais vous la faire en français ce sera bien plus simple pour tout le monde. Il y a en tout 40h de cours en Anglais, 26 en Amphi (lectures, in english) et 14 en TD (tutorials). Il y a des polys (hand-outs) avec plein d'exercices sur l'ENT, certains sont pour les cours en amphi d'autres pour les TD. Une seule absence justifiée est autorisée pour les TD. Le niveau demandé en L2 est un niveau équivalent à l'anglais LV1 au collège et au lycée. Pour l'examen, il y aura une partie QCM sur les cours en amphi. L'autre partie se fera au cours des TP où l'on aura des notes de participation et une présentation orale à faire (d'après ce que j'ai compris, à confirmer en TP). A chaque cours elle ne fait pas un chapitre en entier mais plusieurs 1/14 ANGLAIS – The Medic's Survival Kit – Passive parties de plusieurs chapitres (très pratique …). La salle de TP (laboratoire de langues sur le site de la faculté) est située au sous sol du bâtiment vert. Il faut prendre les escaliers à côté de la cafet' et aller au sous-sol. Des ouvrages de référence sont recommandés et disponibles à la BU, les titres sont sur l'ENT dans le fichier nommé « chp 0 reference ». CHAPTER 1 : THE MEDIC'S SURVIVAL KIT Ce chapitre ne porte que sur du vocabulaire médical. Ce cours correspond à la correction des exercices qu'il y a sur l'ENT. La prof est passée très vite sur l'explication de la leçon, elle a dit de la lire chez nous, j'ai donc prit la leçon de l'ENT et j'ai complété avec ce qu'elle a dit en cours. A. Lesson Complement becomes new subject. Former subject is erased with such words as : somebody, people, they … Agreement has to be checked. Traduction : Le complément devient le nouveau sujet. L'ancien sujet est effacé avec des mots comme : quelqu'un, les gens, ils … On doit donc vérifier que l'accord est bon. En gros, on inverse la phrase et on conjugue avec les règles suivantes tout en gardant le temps d'origine : 9/14 ANGLAIS – The Medic's Survival Kit – Passive Petit rappel : Le « past participle » correspond à la forme verbale du verbe + ED, sauf pour les verbes irréguliers (qu'il faut donc se remémorer). Exemple : The lion eat the zebra → ACTIVE Zebra is eaten by the lion → PASSIVE → BE + past participle The lion is eating the zebra → ACTIVE The zebra is being eaten by the lion → PASSIVE → BE + BEING + past participle Attention : Il n'est pas toujours nécessaire de mentionner le sujet dans une phrase au passé !! Exercises : change the sentences below from active to passive tense 1. The nurse noticed an acceleration in the patient's pulse rate Passive : An acceleration in the patient's pulse rate was noticed (by the nurse). 2. The consultant is allowing him to watch the operation Passive : He is being allowed by the consultant to watch the operation (by the consultant) 3. All chemist sell the tablets Passive : The tablets are sold by all chemist 4. The Doctor diagnosed appendicitis Passive : Appendicitis was diagnosed (by the Doctor) 5. The paramedics conforted the injured person until the ambulance arrived Passive : The injured person was conforted (by the paramedics) until the ambulance arrived 6 The midwife (sage femme) deliver (accoucher) the twins (les jumeaux). Passive : The twins were delivered (by the midwife). 7. The gland was producing an excess of hormons Passive : An excess of hormons was being produced (by the gland). 8. They looked after (s'occuper de) him very well in hospital Passive : He was very well looked after in hospital 9. We examined the tissue under the microscope Passive : The tissue was examined by us under the microscope 10. Passed : signifie faire passer ou donner mais aussi signifie faire pipi. 11/14 ANGLAIS – The Medic's Survival Kit – Passive I. Verbs with two objects Exemple : They gave (me) (a book) 1. The Direct pronoun : a book 2. The Indicrect pronoun : me En français on ne peut commencer que par l'objet direct, en anglais c'est l'indirect qui est privilégié. I was given a book by them. Other verbs (utilisés dans ce cas là) : to give, show, tell, send, offer, promise, refuse, deny They told the patient the truth → The patient was told the truth They showed the patient's wife the ward (service) → The patient's wife showed the ward. Practice : They will ask Hakim a lot of difficult questions → Hakim will be ask a lot of difficult questions. He gave Mary flowers → Mary was given flowers. They have just offered Jane a wonderful job → Jane has just offered a wonderful job. Somebody sent me a strange letter → I was sent a strange letter. We must give all the children a nice present → All the children must be given a nice present. 44.1, 44.2, 44.4 : Exercices pour la semaine prochaine. II. The preposition sticks to the verb. Exemples : Dans ce cas là, il faut garder la préposition avec le verbe. Le verbe et sa préposition sont inséparables. La traduction en français des phrases transformées et non transformées est la même car en français on ne peut commencer que par l'objet direct. They laugh at you → You will be laughed at you. Nobody had slept in this bed for ages → This bed hadn't been slept in for ages. Speak only when somebody speaks to you → Speak only when you are spoken to. Practice : 1. Somebody broke into Jane's flat last week-end Jane's flat was broken into last weed-end. 2.
