AMIT VARMA Postulant du membre 2016 Énoncé du (de la) candidat(e) : The internet has become the backbone of human life. Connecting to others is a basic need – to our home, friendships, and family. The world would be a difficult place if the internet was not there. My family lives in three continents. My 3-year-old sees her 90-year-old greatgrandmother because of the internet. Her great-grandmother figured out the internet because of her need to connect. Common consumers are finding the use of internet in ways simply unimaginable yesterday. Easy > Innovation > Growth > Less cost becomes a self-fulfilling cycle. My goal is to make the internet useful for the industrial world in exactly the same way as how it changed the consumer world. It will bring make our world a better place. But that can only happen if industry sees it in the way consumers see it – necessary to human life. Easy and comfortable to connect. \I have about 20 years’ experience in banking, technology, and the industrial infrastructure, have a Masters degree in Management Science and am an alumni of the Indian School of Business and the Kellogg School of Management. I work on the Industrial Internet, and founded a geospatial engineering firm in Alberta that improves industrial projects. Our work is funded by GE Renewables (Industry) and AITF and IRAP (Government). I connect industrial projects in the same way - machines learn from each other as how a kid and her greatgrandmother. The CIRA board is a set of people who complement the vision of CIRA in a way that defines the role internet plays in the Canadian society. I will bring the industrial use of internet to CIRAs vision. This has been answered previously.I will bring the industrial use of internet to CIRAs vision. 2. Quelles sont les compétences ou les expériences particulières que vous possédez et qui font de vous le meilleur candidat pour le conseil d’administration de l’ACEI? I have the competencies to be in CIRA's board. I complement CIRA's vision by putting in a perspective to the internet - the growing imbalance of industrial adoption vs. consumer adoption. I believe that is vital to the Canadian society. I have about 20 years experience in banking, technology, and industrial infrastructure - started a geospatial firm focused on the Industrial Internet. This is now incubated by Kinetica (Alberta Innovates) and Zone Startups (in partnership with GE). I want to make a difference and took steps to do it. There is value this brings to CIRA's direction. 3. Quels seront, selon vous, les trois principaux défis et les trois possibilités clés devant lesquels le domaine .CA se trouvera au cours des trois à cinq prochaines années? The .CA domain signifies a certain value to who buys it and who uses it. Its the emotional connection with the brand that makes this value - the difference between $9.99 vs. $99 is exactly that. It is Canadian - which is a great to be born with it. But Canada is global (and so is the industrial world). The .CA will have to compete with others. I believe that is the biggest challenge .CA will face in the next three to five years. The opportunity is also to make the most from this. 4. Quelles mesures particulières proposez‐vous pour relever un ou plusieurs de ces défis et profiter de ces possibilités? .CA means a lot of things. "Trust" is one of them. A machine has a different interpretation of trust - it needs to be secure. I believe the .CA can give that emotive connection to the industrial world.
