Here is Joliot Curiosity, the
annual newspaper of our highschool Joliot Curie, written in
English by the European class.
We really enjoyed preparing
this newspaper, thanks to our
studies with Mrs Moreau, and
Mrs Baraud, our teachers, on
the Anglo-Saxon press. We
had to practise by reading and
analyzing many newspapers
like The Sun or The New York
Times. For two weeks, we
spent all the English class
hours in the school library to
create this newspaper. Each
student worked on their own
sections, so they have all written their articles with pleasure.

2013. He was formerly
Archbishop of Buenos Aires
and Cardinal. He has assumed
the responsibility of leading
the world's Catholics.
But what is a Pope's job ?
His regular Vatican appointments are:

tourists and pilgrims every

his study.
- a weekly general audience for some 5,000 pilgrims
in an audience hall or in the
open air.
The Pope presides over religious celebrations of all the
major church festivals of the
year where he appears on the

Mr Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela hospitalized :
Nelson Mandela, the former President of South Africa, spent more than one
week in a hospital where he was treated for pneumonia for the third time in three
months.
His lung problems only got worse with time after all his years in prison and hard
work. His doctor said that his condition was improving and he could soon return
home.
He had already been hospitalized in January 2011 and December 2012 for lung
infections.
He was eventually able to return home on Saturday, 6th of April.
He receives home care since leaving the hospital.

Friday March 16th, the crisis actually started. This country has been
enduring a crisis for five years.
The president of Cyprus said he
had no intention of leaving the
Euro zone. Nicos Anastasiades
said: “In no way will we experiment with the future of our country”. But a
£4,223 monthly
restriction has been established on
money withdrawals. The president
said the situation was “contained”
by the €10 bn deal with the Euro
zone and the IMF (International
Monetary Fund). Cyprus’ central
bank says credit and debit card
transactions are now free of any
restrictions. The banks reopened
on Thursday March 28th. Despite
the fact that many people went to
withdraw money, the atmosphere
was quite calm and the banks had
returned to their normal opening
hours.

The Sky Conquest by Antony and Arnaud
The highest skyscraper in the world will rise
in Djedda, Saudi Arabia around 2017
This marvel of architecture is the achievement
of many years of research. Its name is the
Kingdom Tower, a giant project which will
cost over a billion dollars.
The “sky conquest” has begun since the 1900s
but it is in the 60s that what we know as skyscrapers rose. We can find skyscrapers on each
continent nowadays. They prove the power of
a country. The newest skyscrapers are as original as they are high.
The Kingdom Tower was previously known as
Mile-High Tower. Indeed, its original height
was supposed to be a mile (1,600 m) but research revealed that the ground wouldn’t be
able to support it. However, the final height
will still be over 1,000m.
The architect is Adrian Smith, the same who
designed the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, another
famous skyscraper which appears
in the film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol by Bride Bird

Our life source, the Sun, will have a breakdown
of energy in around 5 billion years
The Sun is the star which allows the presence of liquid water
on the Earth’s surface. Without it
life wouldn’t exist on earth. The
Sun is composed of 73% hydrogen. To release light and heat the
Sun consumes 620 million tons of
hydrogen every second. But this
fuel isn’t unlimited. Compared
with other similar stars in our galaxy, the astrophysicists said that
the Sun is at the middle of its hydrogen combustion. Which leaves
us 5 billion years before exhaustion of the hydrogen stock.

76% of French dissatisfaction with the
government’s policy
Only a few months after his election, François Hollande is the most unpopular president of the fifth Republic’s history. French
citizens are dissatisfied with Hollande’s
government. 0n Thursday 28 March, when
he spoke on television , 68% of the French
population said that he was « not convincing at all ». On the Web, on a lot of social
networks , we can find a dozen of petitions
to ask for his resignation. In spite of this,
Hollande will cut family allowances for rich
families.
What’s more, « Cahuzac’s case » doesn’t settle anything. Indeed, Budget minister,
Jerôme Cahuzac owns an account in Switzerland, which he strongly denied four
months ago. In a recent declaration, he apologized to his former colleagues, to the
French population, and to President François Hollande for his lies. He said that he is
ashamed of what he did, above all, in front of his family.
Nicolas Sarkozy , the ex-French president is being charged with breach of trust against Mrs
Bettencourt. He was interviewed by the judge
Mr. Jean-Michel Gentil. The ex-president said
that he was innocent and that he would not
leave it at that. The judge decided to suspend his
indictment for abuse of weakness.
Nevertheless, as we all may be entitled to vote soon, we must not consider that all
politicians are corrupted and useless. We must not abstain from voting! On the contrary, we must use this right to vote as the best way to preserve democracy.

Hello, I wrote to you two months ago to ask for advice about the way to find a girlfriend. I tried some
of your methods to have a girl in my life. First, I asked one to tell me the time but she slapped me because I
think I was not allowed to touch her hair only because she had answered politely. Second method, I went to

-Good-looking mask with pink clay
Ingredients:
-2 teaspoons of pink clay
-2 teaspoons of mashed carrot
-2 drops of essential oil of geranium rosat
Preparation:
- Place pink clay and mashed carrot in a bowl.
- Stir thoroughly with a spoon
- Add 2 drops of Geranium Rosat oil and stir again.
Instructions:
-Finally put the cream on your face. Leave it for 10 mns and rinse it off with fresh water.
So now you can party all night without worrying
about your looks!

Ingredients
-16 sheets of brick
-500g of minced spiced meat
-1 finely chopped onion
-1 teaspoon of paprika
-1 teaspoon of cumin

-2 beaten eggs
-25ml of olive oil
-25g of melted butter
Preparation
Heat the olive oil in a pan. Sweat the onion and garlic for 5 minutes. Add ground beef and
cook .Stir in the spices with a little seasoning. Remove from heat and set aside. Spread a sheet of
brick. Place a tablespoon of preparation in the centre. Fold the sides toward the centre in order to
obtain a triangle. Fry the brick.

Ingredients
-270g of flour
-2 eggs
- Icing sugar
-1 pinch of salt
-1 teaspoon of extract of vanilla.

-1 small basket of raspberries
Preparation
In a robot, mix flour, salt, sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and oil. Fill in the ramekins, add the raspberries and cover. Bake for 20minutes. Serve the muffins with raspberries rolled
in icing sugar.

Videogames :Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider was published by Square Enix and produced by
Cristal Dynamics . This game was released on March 5, 2013 and
the main character is the famous Lara Croft .
The story takes place during an expedition in the Pacific
Ocean to find the old Kingdom of Yamatai . Unfortunately the heroes ran aground on an island inhabited by Solariis .
The gunfights were often criticized in the previous episodes.
However, in this version, the gunfights have improved . It is more
realistic and the difficulty increases as the player progresses .
This game offers an important place to exploration with the
numerous hidden treasures , the improvement of the equipment and
the freedom to return to zones already investigated .
The multiplayer makes its appearance with five maps and a multitude of objectives . The
multiplayer is not the main thing but adds a huge bonus to this new opus .
This new generation of Tomb Raider satisfies all the requirements of a very good game .

Adele Emili Sandé was born on March 10th 1987 in
Alford in Scotland.

hammer. He also played in “Avengers” by Joss
Whedon, this movie brings together several super heroes against a global threat.
There will even be a sequel to "Thor" by Kenneth
Branagh which will be entitled "Thor: The Dark
World" , directed by Alan Taylor, and is to be released

TED: WHAT’S BETTER THAN A GOOD COMEDY?

American comedy with Mark Walhberg, Mila Kunis, Seth MacFarlane…
Running time: 107 min.
Plot: At 8 years old, the little John Bennett made the wish that his Christmas teddy
bear comes alive and becomes his best friend for life, and he saw his wish fulfilled.
Almost 30 years later, the story doesn’t look like a Christmas story anymore. Ted's
omnipresence alongside John weighs heavily on his relationship with Lori. Although, Lori is patient, she sees in this exclusive relationship, principally to drink
beers and smoke in front of cheesy TV programs more cheesy than others, a handicap that confines John into childhood, prevents him to succeed professionally and to
get involved in their relationship. Torn between his love for Lori and his loyalty towards Ted, John struggles in order to become a man, a real one!
Although we could believe that Ted is a movie for children because of the teddy bear
as main character, actually Ted is a film for an audience of teenagers or adults. The
positive thing is that you do not get bored, but we must say that the story is a bit unreal: the teddy bear which comes alive proves it. We really liked it, because the
movie is pretty original.

The Glastonbury festival is one of the biggest festivals in the entire world. It has been
taking place in Pilton, Somerset, England
since 1970. For 3 days, on the last weekend
of June, in the open air, more than 150,000
people attend over 700 shows! Between
1970 and 2011, more than 150 singers trod
upon the stage of the festival such as Coldplay, Beyoncé or even Stevie Wonder. The
ticket price for 3 days is £195; it’s a little bit
expensive but it is totally worth it!

such as Paramore, Simple Plan, Sum 41
and Gym Class Heroes.

TRIBUTE TO THE ANCESTOR
Woodstock Music and Art Fair was a free music
festival and a gathering of hippie culture which
took place in 1969 in Bethel, NY. It was a nonstop music festival. The first edition was supposed to last two days (from August 15th to August 17th, 1969) but more than half a million
people came to this gathering and finally, it
lasted until the morning of August 18th, 1969.
This festival welcomed folk and rock artists
such as Janis Joplin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix
and The Who. This event has been immortalized
by the movie "Woodstock" directed by Michael
Wadleigh.

A ghost in the music business
Seven years after FutureSex/LoveSounds, Justin Timberlake told the
press that apart from cinema, “Music is more than anything in the
world”. While we thought we’d never see him on stage again, Justin
Timberlake comes back with a new opus called “The 20/20 Experience” which is a blend of soul and R’n’b. The actor/singer created expectations and his video posted in January where he was announcing
from a recording studio: “I’m ready” was a great surprise for all the
fans who had been waiting for this moment for so long.
Nothing was done randomly: “The 20/20 Experience” was recorded in
20 days and the great music video “Suit and Tie”, filmed by David
Fincher (the director of The Social Network), shows him in black and
white tuxedo and bow tie: elegance impersonated. Justin ensures the
promotion of his last album: at the last Grammy Awards ceremony, his
performance of “Suit and Tie” with Jay-Z, which marks his musical
comeback, was hailed by all. Two songs from that album have already
been released: “Suit and Tie” and “Mirrors” are already real successes.
And just for his comeback: we say “Thank you ! We missed your music so much !”
We listened to his new album and we found it amazing: our favorite
songs are: Pusher Love Girl, Let the groove get in, Spaceship Coupe
and Mirrors. Those songs are really great, some are catchy and Justin
conveys his feelings through his music.

D.L: I began my professional career last year too.

C.W: It’s a good championship.
D.L: Yes it’s a good level .

D.L: Yes, I’m proud to be a player in Nanterre because every time we win, you know. It’s a record, it is my
second season in pro A so it is something new for Nanterre.
C.W: I’m proud to play in Nanterre, we always win. There are good supporters.
5) What are the relationships between players ? Are they good ?
D.L: Yes we have good relations here, no one hates each other, we do some things outside of Basketball
C.W: Yes we go to movies, clubs and nightclubs.
6) What is it like to live in France ?
C.W: I mean, the biggest difference is living without our family.

April, we met
Nanterre’s basketball team.
We interviewed
two players of
the team and
we had the opportunity
to
attend a training.

The history of the club
The JSFN (Jeunesse Sportive des Fontenelles de Nanterre) was founded in
1927.It was initially a sports association of basketball. The coach of the team is
Pascal Donnadieu. The President is the coach’s father, Jean Donnadieu.
In 2004 the team reached the pro B, the second division of the French championship.
In 2007 Nanterre was finalist of the French cup.
In 2008 They were semi-finalist of the French cup.
In 2010 Nanterre’s supporters won the cup of fair-play and the team was semifinalist of pro B.
In 2011 Nanterre became the new French champion of the pro B. And they
reached the pro A.
LATEST NEWS: On Tuesday 9 April, the JSFN defeated Boulogne/Mer and reached
the French Cup Final! Go and support them in Paris Bercy on May 5, 2013!
