Southminster United Church 7:30pm Young Artists from the National Arts Centre’s Summer Music Institute (SMI) perform in a concert showcasing exceptional talent and spectacular repertoire. The SMI, founded by Pinchas Zukerman in 1999, has grown into an internationally renowned training program for emerging artists from across Canada and beyond. For a second year running, Southminster United Church is privileged to be hosting the thrilling 'finale' concert for its roster of world-class young vocalists coached by Benita Valente, and instrumentalists coached by Principals of the NAC Orchestra. History of SMI: In 1999, the National Arts Centre's Music Director Pinchas Zukerman founded the Young Artists program (YAP) with just 10 students. With an exceptional international faculty and students of the highest calibre, the Summer Music Institute brings the world to Canada and Canada to the world. By 2013, more than 900 young people have participated over the years from across Canada and around the world to Ottawa to experience intensive learning, passionate pedagogy and new-found friendships at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Tickets are only $15 ($5 for students) and available at the NAC Box office, the Leading Note on Elgin, Compact Music (Glebe), the Ottawa Folklore Centreand the Southminster Church office. Southminster United Church located at 15 Aylmer Ave (Bank Street and the Rideau canal), accessible by OCTranspo routes 1 & 7. The church is wheelchair accessible.
