Chers Membres,
L’Assemblée Générale Annuelle de l’Alliance Française de Vancouver se tiendra le vendredi 17 juin 2016 à 17h30 en
son auditorium, 6161 Cambie Street.
Comme l’année dernière, après l’Assemblée Générale et les votes officiels, nous vous invitons à notre désormais
mensuel Apéro qui, pour clôturer cette année scolaire, prendra aussi la forme d’un BBQ.

En cette 112
année de présence à Vancouver, l’Alliance Française de Vancouver est en pleine forme : forte
progression du nombre de membres, augmentation du nombre de participants aux événements culturels,
accroissements du nombre d’élèves,…
Le travail de tous depuis quelques années permet à notre association une croissance et une capacité d’action
retrouvée. 2015 fut la première année entière sous la direction de Damien Hubert, avec d’excellents résultats. Les
projets futurs ne manquent pas, nous vous en présenterons lors de l’Assemblée.
Si vous êtes dans l’impossibilité de participer à l’AG, vous trouverez ci-joint une procuration pour donner mandat à
un autre membre votant. La procuration doit être déposée à l’Alliance Française au minimum 24 heures avant
l’Assemblée Générale.

The Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) of the Alliance Française de Vancouver will be held Friday June 17 at 5:30
p.m. in the Auditorium of the Alliance Française, 6161 Cambie Street, Vancouver.
Like last year, after the Annual General Meeting and formal voting, we invite you to join us at our monthly Apéro. To
celebrate the end of this school year we will be having a BBQ.

In our 112 year in Vancouver, the Alliance Francaise of Vancouver is in excellent form: strong growth in
membership, increased number of participants in cultural events, progress of the numbers of students, etc.
The work of all the recent years allows our association continuing growth and a new vibrancy in all that we do. 2015
was the first full year under the direction of Damien Hubert, with excellent results. Future projects are in the works,
we will present them at the AGM.
If you are unable to attend the Annual General Meeting in person, you can cast your vote by completing the enclosed
form of proxy appointing another ordinary member to cast your vote and submitting your signed form of proxy at
the address of the Alliance Francaise twenty-four (24) hours prior to the meeting.

Candidats sélectionnés par le comité de nomination du Conseil
d’Administration pour 2016-2017
Michael Huenefeld, Jean-Pierre Berger et Alexandra Nicolas ont présenté leur démission pour raison de
disponibilité.
Marie-Claire Howard arrive à la fin de son troisième mandat et ne peut donc se représenter. Bruno
Gervès, Virginie Linage arrivent à la fin de leur premier mandat. Aireen Luney arrive à la fin de son
premier mandat mais pour des raisons de disponibilité, ne souhaite pas se représenter.
Emmanuelle Roux et Amanda Wheat entament la deuxième année de leur premier mandat.
Pour remplir les sept postes vacants en assurant le maximum de continuité, le comité de sélection du CA
recommande les candidats suivants :
Sima Godfrey
Originaire de Toronto, enseigne le français, la littérature et l’histoire culturelle de la France dans le
département d’études françaises, italiennes et hispaniques à UBC depuis 1989. Spécialiste de la littérature
française du XIXe siècle, elle a fait des études à l’université de Lausanne, à l’université de Toronto et à
Cornell University. Pour son travail (et son plaisir !) elle a passé beaucoup de temps en France, une
habitude qu’elle refuse d’abandonner. Parmi ses projets de recherche, elle a travaillé sur la culture de la
mode en France, ce qui lui a permis de faire des conférences à la galerie d’art de Vancouver lors de
l’exposition "The Modern Woman: Drawings by Degas, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and Other Master pieces
from the Musée d’Orsay". Avant de venir à UBC, Sima Godfrey avait enseigné le français à l’université de
la Caroline du Nord où elle a aussi géré le programme d’échange avec l’université de Montpellier pendant
un an. En dehors du département de français, à UBC elle a monté et géré l’Institut d’Études Européennes
pendant 8 ans. Parmi ses nombreuses activités, elle organisait 3 colloques par an, plus des conférences
bimensuelles. Ce travail de direction lui a permis d’établir des rapports non seulement avec différents
partenaires universitaires mais aussi avec tous les consulats et services culturels européens à Vancouver
de même qu’avec les directeurs des festivals de cinéma, d’écrivains et de jazz avec qui elle a pu
travailler. À l’Alliance Française, elle représenterait les intérêts de l’enseignement et elle aimerait partager
son expérience de coopération et de collaboration avec différents partenaires et réseaux culturels.
Robert Khouri
Âgé de 56 ans, il est bi-national Français et Canadien. Il est à Vancouver depuis 2004. Après un diplôme
d’ingénieur ETP et un Master of Science de Columbia University, il a fondé en 1987 sa première entreprise
liée aux systèmes d’informations et de transactions sur les bourses électroniques en Europe. En 10 ans,
cette entreprise s’est largement développée auprès des plus grandes institutions financières à Paris,
Londres, Milan, Francfort, Milan, Madrid, Genève et Amsterdam et a finalement été acquise par la Société
des Bourses Françaises. Après 12 ans d’inactivité professionnelle, en 2010, Robert a fondé sa seconde
entreprise, également informatique, dans le domaine de l’immobilier (condominiums) des zones urbaines
avec des services intégrés aux bases de données des MLS (multiple listing service) administrés par les
associations qui contrôlent ce marché sur des territoires bien définis (Real Estate Boards and
Associations). En 6 ans, cette nouvelle société opère dans toutes les grandes villes de la Floride ainsi que le
Grand Vancouver. Robert apporte son expérience en gestion d’entreprises, ainsi qu’un réseau d’affaires
important tant à Vancouver qu’en France.
Vanessa Chevalier Boname
Après un Diplôme Universitaire et Technologique Information-Communication option Métiers du Livre à
Paris X, l'Alliance Française de Vancouver a eu un grand impact sur ma vie professionnelle au Canada car
j'ai pu réaliser mon stage de fin d'études au sein de la bibliothèque de l'Alliance. Il y a 16 ans, Philippe
Timon m'a donné cette chance et sous la direction de Catherine Pétillon, j'ai occupé le poste de
bibliothécaire pendant l'année 2002. J'ai beaucoup apprécié la convivialité entre les membres du
personnel et j'étais très fière de pouvoir partager mon amour de la littérature et du cinéma français aux
étudiants et autres membres de l'Alliance Française. Cela fait maintenant 15 ans que je suis à Vancouver.
Je suis devenue canadienne mais une grande part de moi est toujours très française : je cuisine et
apprends à mes filles à cuisiner des recettes françaises ; je lis beaucoup de livres d'auteurs français et je lis
tous les jours certains journaux français comme le Monde, j'écoute tous les jours France Inter (vive la
technologie !) et je cours au cinéma dès qu'un film français ou francophone est à l'affiche ! Travaillant
depuis trois ans à la bibliothèque de Rose-des-vents, j'ai acquis de bonnes connaissances sur les besoins
littéraires des enfants apprenant le français comme seconde langue. La bibliothèque de l'Alliance
Française a selon moi un grand rôle à jouer pour la promotion de la lecture et de l’écriture auprès de
nombreux enfants et jeunes de Vancouver, qu'ils soient élèves d'écoles francophones, d'écoles
d'immersion ou étudiants à l'Alliance. Je serai fière de rejoindre le conseil d’administration de l'Alliance
avant de promouvoir cette belle institution et, à travers elle, la culture française et francophone dans
Vancouver et sa région.
Daniel Nocente
Jusqu’en septembre 2012, M. Nocente était vice-président de Corporate and Investment Banking auprès
de National Bank Financial Inc. Il avait auparavant été vice-président de BC Geography Head auprès de
RBC Dominion Securities. M. Nocente fait actuellement partie du conseil d’administration du Vancouver
Coastal Health et est Président du comité de vérification. Il est également Président de Savary Gold Inc,
une entreprise d’exploration aurifère, en activité au Burkina Faso, en Afrique. Il a également été au conseil
d’administration et dans le comité de vérification de Line Rapid Transit Inc., au conseil d’administration de
St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, au conseil d’administration de Nature Trust of BC, vice-président et
administrateur de Providence Healthcare, au conseil d’administration et à la tête du comité de
gouvernance de Arts Club Theatre Company et membre du YMCA Cabinet. M. Nocent est titulaire d’une
licence d’Arts de l’université de Colombie-Britannique, d’un master de Business Administration de la
George Washington University à Washington DC et a suivi le cours de Leadership in Professional Services
Firms de la Harvard Business School.
Frédérique Morel
Entrepreneur française de 34 ans, résidant à Vancouver, j’ai vendu les parts de ma société éditrice de
logiciel immobilier cette année et je me consacre à présent à la pratique de Reiki comme outil de
méditation dans les entreprises canadiennes. J’aime la photographie que j’étudie à Langara et les voyages.
Internet m’a apporté une grande liberté et m’a permis de m’installer en Thaïlande pendant plusieurs
années, puis à Vancouver. Expatriée depuis 10 ans, je reste très attachée à mes racines. Je souhaite
intégrer l’Alliance Française afin de me rapprocher de ma communauté et participer à l’effort de diffusion
de la culture française dans mon pays d’adoption, le Canada.

Le CA remercie Marie-Claire Howard, Aireen Luney, Michael Huenefeld, Jean-Pierre Berger, Alexandra
Nicolas pour leur implication au sein du CA. Nous espérons qu’ils resteront des membres fidèles et actifs
de l’AFV.
Candidates selected by the nomination committee for the Board of
Directors 2016-2017
Michael Huenefeld, Jean-Pierre Berger and Alexandra Nicolas handed in their resignation for availability
reasons.
Marie-Claire Howard ends her third mandate and therefore cannot run for a new mandate. Bruno Gervès
and Virginie Linage end their first mandate. Aireen Luney ends her first mandate but doesn’t want to run
for a new mandate for availability reasons.
Emmanuelle Roux and Amanda Wheat start the second year of their first mandate.
To fill in the seven vacant chairs and secure the best continuity possible, the nomination committee of the
Board of Directors recommends the following candidates:
Sima Godfrey
She was born in Toronto. She has been teaching French, French literature and French culture since 1989 in
the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies at UBC. She studied at Lausanne University,
Toronto University and Cornell University and specialized in French literature of the 19th century. She has
spent much time in France, for work but also for leisure, and still wants to return. One of her research
projects was on fashion in France, which led her to make talks at the Vancouver Art Gallery for the
exhibition "The Modern Woman: Drawings by Degas, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and Other Masterpieces
from the Musée d’Orsay". Before arriving at UBC, Sima Godfrey taught French at The University of North
Carolina, where she was also in charge of the exchange program with the University of Montpellier for a
year. She also created and managed the Institute of European Studies during 8 years, organizing 3
symposiums per year and bi-monthly conventions, among other activities. Managing the Institute enabled
her to have connections with universities, European consulates and cultural services and cinema,
literature and jazz festival managers with whom she worked. At the Alliance Française, she would
represent the value of teaching and would like to share her experience in cooperation and collaboration
with various partners and cultural networks.
Robert Khouri
He is 56 and is both French and Canadian. He has been living in Vancouver since 2004. He has an ETP
engineer diploma and a Master of Science at the Columbia University. In 1987, he created his first
company, based on information and transaction systems for electronic stock markets in Europe. The
company grew during 10 years, working with major financial institutions in Paris, London, Milano,
Frankfurt, Madrid, Geneva and Amsterdam and was finally bought by the Société des Bourses Françaises.
In 2010, after 12 years of professional inactivity, Robert created his second computer-based company, for
urban zones condominiums, offering services based on multiple listing services and managed by Real
Estate Boards and Associations. In the past 6 years, the company has been working in all major cities in
Florida and Greater Vancouver. Robert brings his experience in company management as well as his vast
professional network in Vancouver and in France.
Vanessa Chevalier Boname
After a diploma in Information-Communication specialized in the book industry at the University of Paris
X, the Alliance Française de Vancouver played a major role in my professional life in Canada since I did my
end-of-course internship at their library. 16 years ago, Philippe Timon gave me this opportunity and I
worked at the library in 2002, supervised by Catherine Pétillon. I very much liked the friendliness of the
staff and felt very proud to share my love for French literature and cinema with the students and other
members of the Alliance. I have been living in Vancouver for 15 years. I became Canadian but a part of me
remains very French: I cook French cuisine and teach my daughters how to make French recipes, I read
many French books and go through French newspaper like Le Monde every day, listen to France Inter
every day (technology is amazing!) and run to the cinema whenever a French of French-speaking movie is
shown. I have been working for three years at the Rose-des-vents library and learnt a lot on what children
learning French as a second language need to read. I think the library of the Alliance Française has a major
role to play in the literacy of many children and teenagers in Vancouver, be they in French-speaking
schools, immersion schools or leaning French at the Alliance. I would be proud to join the Board of
Directors of the Alliance to promote this great institution and through it the French culture in Vancouver
and its region.
Daniel Nocente
Until September 2012, Mr. Nocente was Vice Chairman of Corporate and Investment Banking with
National Bank Financial Inc. Previously, he was Vice Chairman and BC Geography Head with RBC Dominion
Securities. Mr. Nocente currently sits on the Vancouver Coastal Health Board and is chairman of the Audit
Committee. He is also currently Chairman of Savary Gold Inc, a gold exploration company with assets in
Burkina Fasso, Africa. In addition, he was served as Director and Audit Committee Chair with Canada Line
Rapid Transit Inc., Chair of St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, Chairman of the Nature Trust of BC, Vice Chair
and Director of Providence Healthcare, Director and Head of the Governance Committee with the Arts
Club Theatre Company, and was a member of the YMCA Cabinet. Mr. Nocente holds a Bachelor degree of
Arts degree from the University of Brotish Columbia, a Master degree in Business Administration from
George Washington University in Washignton DC, and has completed the Leadership in Professional
Services Firms course at the Harvard Business School.
Frédérique Morel
I am a 34 year-old French entrepreneur living in Vancouver. I have sold my shares in my real-estate
software publishing company and I now dedicate myself to the Reiki technique as a meditation tool in
Canadian companies. I like photography – I study it in Langara – and travels. The internet gave me a lot of
leeway and I was able to settle down in Thailand for a few years, before coming to Vancouver. I have been
expatriate for 10 years and am very attached to my home country. I want to be part of the Alliance
Française to get closer to my community and be part of the efforts made to promote French culture in my
country of adoption: Canada.
Bruno Gervès, has been President of the Board of Directors for a year.
Virginie Linage, has been in charge of marketing supervision in the Board of Directors for a year.
The Board of Directors gives thanks to Marie-Claire Howard, Aireen Luney, Michael Huenefeld, JeanPierre Berger and Alexandra Nicolas for their commitment in the Board of Directors. We hope they will
remain faithful and active members of the AFV.
