MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN
BENIN CiTY OF EDO STATE OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA
AND
OAKLAND CITY OF CALIFORNIA STATE
OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
ON
THE ESTABLISHMENT OF SISTER-CITY RELATIONSHIP
BeninCity of Edo Slate of Federal Republic of Nigeria and Oakland City of California Stateof
the United States of America, in accordance with the principles of the Joint Communique on the
Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the United
States of America, for the purpose of future enhancing and developing friendship and cooperation
between tiie Peoples of Nigeria and the United States of America, and through friendly
consultation, wish to establish a sister-city relationship.
On the basis of a new friendly relationship and according to the principles of equality and mutual
benefit, the two citics will carry out exchanges and cooperation in various fields of mutual
interest between the two sides.
This Memorandum of Understanding shall enter into cffect the date signed by the two
government officials of the two cities, in the City of Oakland on November 30, 2010. In order to
develop and strengthen the sister city relationship between the two cities, leaders from both sides
will proceed to meet at a mutually agreed lime to facilitate the signing of a formal sister-city
agreement, and enter into negotiations on the exchange and cooperation on matters of mutual
interest thereafter.
