Timisoara is the third largest city in Romania and the most important city in the Western region of the country. The city is settled on the Bega River and it offers a vibrant cultural life. Frequently referred to as “Little Vienna” Timisoara hosts musical and theatrical performances all year-round, a large number of art galleries and museums, and a buzzing nightlife. A cosmopolitan city, Timisoara shows the influence of Turkish, Austrians, Germans or Serbians, who left their mark on different neighborhoods throughout the city. Timisoara was the first city in Europe and second in the world, after New York, to use electricity to illuminate its public streets. If you travel by plane, the city has the third largest airport in Romania, Traian Vuia International Airport, located 10 km from the city center. Regular flights from/to the major European and domestic destinations are available (for example, Barcelona, Bergamo, Bucharest, Dortmund, Forli, London, Madrid, Milano, Munich, Paris, Rome, Stuttgart, Valencia). If you prefer the train, there are direct trains daily from Budapest (5 hours), Belgrade (4 hours), Vienna (8 hours) and Munich (15 hours). Numerous trains are available to Bucharest and most Romanian cities. Numerous hotels are available in the neighbourhood of the conference venue (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Timisoara). Some of them are EURO Hotel, NH Hotel or Timisoara Hotel. You can find more information about city highlights, attractions and accommodation on: http://www.romaniatourism.com/timisoara.html International Conference TIMTED 2014 Page 3 TIMTED Conference - Scope The East-European Center for Research in Economics and Business (ECREB), The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and The Oeconomica Timisiensis Foundation are the organizers of The International Conference “Current Economic Trends in Emerging and Developing Countries” (TIMTED). The conference addresses to all interested persons in the related fields, both academics and professionals, from all over the world. The goal of the conference is to offer a high quality scientific environment for all participants, in order to meet, exchange and debate ideas, opinions and expertise. Subsidiarily, the conference also encourages the submissions of interdisciplinary research, i.e. economics and business administration fields correlated with other areas, such as sociology, politics, psychology etc. TIMTED Conference - Topics The main topics, although not limitative, are: • • • • • • accounting and auditing; business information system; finance, money, banking and capital market; growth and development; heterodox economics; macroeoconomics; • • • • • management; marketing; microeconomics and industrial economics; public choice; social and welfare economics Page 4 International Conference TIMTED 2014 Keynote Speakers John Hudson is Professor of Economics at University of Bath (United Kindom) and member of “Panel of Economic Advisors and the South West Regional Development Agency” (SWRDA). Among his research interests we can enumerate taxation, law abidance, bankruptcy, informational asymmetry and signalling, and political economics interface. Professor Hudson has published more than 60 papers in important journals such as The Journal of Economic Perspectives, The Economic Journal, The European Journal of Political Economy, The Journal of Public Economics or Economics Letters. His book, “Business Regulation and Public Policy: The Costs and Benefits of Compliance”, was designated by the American Library Journal Choice as one of the outstanding books of the year. During TIMTED conference, Dr. Hudson will present the lecture entitled “Aiding Innovation to Stimulate Growth”. Dennis Mueller is Professor Emeritus of University of Vienna (Austria), a former Director of “International Institute of Management/Industrial Policy” (Berlin, Germany) and honorary president of the “Public Choice Society”, “Industrial Organization Society” and “Southern Economic Association”. Some of Dr. Mueller’s research interests are industrial economics, public choice, constitutional political economy. Professor Mueller published papers in important journals such as American Economic Review, Public Economics Review, Public Choice or Empirica. Dr. Mueller will present the lecture entitled “Corporate Governance and the State”. John Oversby, from University of Reading (United Kindom) and Institute of Education, is a science education consultant with more than 40 years of experience in schools and universities, providing support and training for science education professionals at all levels, from primary to university. During TIMTED conference, Dr Oversby will conduct a workshop entitled “Researching diagrams in learning”. Conference Fee The conference fee is €100 per participant and it includes the attendance to all conference sessions, the conference bag, conference materials, coffee breaks, together with the participation at the Gala Dinner. PhD participant students pay a reduced conference fee of €50. The conference fee should be paid only after the acceptance of the paper for presentation at the conference. Fee payment and registration should be made until the 17th of May 2014, in order to be included in the conference program. Once the registration is made, there will be no refund in the case of cancellation. A substitute participant will be accepted (his/her name will be required) before the 30th of May 2014. An additional fee of €30 will be paid at the conference desk. Prizes Two prizes will be awarded for the best papers of the conference: • TIMTED 2014 PhD Student Prize – €250 (best paper written by PhD student/s); • TIMTED 2014 Young Researcher Prize – €250 (best paper written by Researcher/s under 40 years old). The winners will be selected by a jury composed of members of the scientific board. The prizes will be announced formally on the 13th of June, during the traditional Romanian evening. International Conference TIMTED 2014 Page 7 Social Programme We are happy to announce you that the social programme is already scheduled and it will take place on Friday evening and Saturday (13-14 June 2014). We will spend the night in Orsova. Orsova is a port city on the Danube river, located in the south-western region of Romania. It is situated just above the Iron Gates, on the spot where the Cerna River meets the Danube. On Friday, a traditional Romanian evening will be organized, allowing our participants to network and develop new relationships. On Saturday, a cruise on Danube will offer the chance to explore and see the Dubova Golf, the statue of Decebalus, the king of Dacia, Tabula Traiana, a Roman memorial plaque, the Iron Gates, which separate Romania from Serbia, or the Tricule Fortress, built in the XVth century to stop the Otoman expansion to west. We will have lunch on the boat and return to Timisoara on Saturday evening. An additional fee of €30/participant will be charged for the social programme (the fee will be paid at the conference desk). The social programme is optional. The fee covers the trip from Timisoara to Orsova and back, the traditional Romanian evening, the Danube cruise and the lunch on the boat. The accommodation in Orsova will be provided by the Meridian Hotel, for a reduced price of €20/night/person (double room) or €40/night/person (single room) paid separately, by every participant who wants to attend the social programme. Page 8 International Conference TIMTED 2014 Last year, TIMTED 2013 took place between the 6th and the 8th of June, at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Timisoara. The conference gathered participants from 10 countries and they were affiliated to more than 20 different universities. Nine parallel sessions were organized, focusing on certain topics such as corporate finance, capital markets, development and emerging countries etc. The invited keynote speakers were Francesco Forte (Professor Emeritus of Sapienza University of Rome, Italy), Gareth Myles (Professor of Economics at University of Exeter, United Kingdom), Jesus Lopez-Rodriguez (Associate Professor at University of A Coruna, Spain) and Liliana Harding (Lecturer, East Anglia University, United Kingdom) The participants had the opportunity to exchange and debate ideas during the plenary sessions and coffee breaks, at the reception dinner held on the first night, at the Academic Networking Event held on Friday, and during the Danube Cruise held on Saturday. The environment created offered on one hand high quality scientific discussions and on the other hand a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, which helped establish close relationships and future research partnerships.
