Welcome to Timisoara!
Timisoara is the third largest city in Romania and the most important
city in the Western region of the country. The city is settled on the Bega River
and it offers a vibrant cultural life. Frequently referred to as “Little Vienna”
Timisoara hosts musical and theatrical performances all year-round, a large
number of art galleries and museums, and a buzzing nightlife. A cosmopolitan
city, Timisoara shows the influence of Turkish, Austrians, Germans or Serbians,
who left their mark on different neighborhoods throughout the city. Timisoara
was the first city in Europe and second in the world, after New York, to use
electricity to illuminate its public streets.
If you travel by plane, the city has the third largest airport in Romania,
Traian Vuia International Airport, located 10 km from the city center. Regular
flights from/to the major European and domestic destinations are available (for
example, Barcelona, Bergamo, Bucharest, Dortmund, Forli, London, Madrid,
Milano, Munich, Paris, Rome, Stuttgart, Valencia).
If you prefer the train, there are direct trains daily from Budapest (5
hours), Belgrade (4 hours), Vienna (8 hours) and Munich (15 hours). Numerous
trains are available to Bucharest and most Romanian cities.
Numerous hotels are available in the neighbourhood of the conference
venue (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Timisoara). Some of
them are EURO Hotel, NH Hotel or Timisoara Hotel.
You can find more information about city highlights, attractions and
accommodation on: http://www.romaniatourism.com/timisoara.html

Social Programme
We are happy to announce you that the social
programme is already scheduled and it will take place on Friday
evening and Saturday (13-14 June 2014). We will spend the night
in Orsova. Orsova is a port city on the Danube river, located in
the south-western region of Romania. It is situated just above
the Iron Gates, on the spot where the Cerna River meets the
Danube. On Friday, a traditional Romanian evening will be
organized, allowing our participants to network and develop new
relationships. On Saturday, a cruise on Danube will offer the
chance to explore and see the Dubova Golf, the statue of
Decebalus, the king of Dacia, Tabula Traiana, a Roman memorial
plaque, the Iron Gates, which separate Romania from Serbia, or
the Tricule Fortress, built in the XVth century to stop the Otoman
expansion to west. We will have lunch on the boat and return to
Timisoara on Saturday evening.
An additional fee of €30/participant will be charged for
the social programme (the fee will be paid at the conference
desk). The social programme is optional. The fee covers the trip
from Timisoara to Orsova and back, the traditional Romanian
evening, the Danube cruise and the lunch on the boat. The
accommodation in Orsova will be provided by the Meridian
