REPORT OF THE CHAIR
I would like to welcome you to Ottawa to the 111th Annual Meeting of Canadian Livestock Records Corporation.
In 2015 we see some changes at CLRC including the welcoming of our new General Manager, Jim
Washer. Jim brings a new perspective to CLRC and I hope you will all have a chance to meet with him over the
coming months.
Last year at our meeting in Calgary we had an outstanding endorsement of the importance of the Animal
Pedigree Act and CLRC from both members and non-member breed associations. Over 70 people traveled to
Calgary from coast to coast to voice their support. I am hopeful that the industries endorsement will mean the
continuance of this important legislation for pedigreed seed stock breeders.
As we move forward we are embarking on the development of a strategic plan. It is our hope that all members
will provide input on what they see as important in the future direction of CLRC. All Associations and members
will be asked to participate through the surveys being sent out or at the workshop at this annual meeting.
The purebred livestock industry in Canada provides some of the best genetics both for domestic and
international use. As your registry we strive to provide the most accurate and useful systems possible. Over the
past few years we have managed to do this and still hold our rate increases to significantly less than the rate of
inflation. As we move forward it will be necessary to adjust some of our rates upward to compensate for the
declining numbers of purebred animals being registered. As always we will endeavour to keep our services as
reasonably priced as possible.
I would like to thank the CLRC staff for their commitment and hard work in providing us with accurate quality
registry services.
I would also like to thank the Board of Directors for their time and dedication, and the guidance that they offer
to CLRC. Many hours and days are devoted to CLRC business and their commitment is commendable.
As always it will continue to be the focus of CLRC to be a worldwide leader in the efficient and accurate
delivery of registration services for our Members as they continue to provide top seed stock to Canada and the
world.
Respectfully submitted

Respectueusement,
Dan Stephenson
Président

General Manager’s Report
It is an honour to present this report, as I embark on my new role as General Manager for the Canadian
Livestock Records Corporation.
During this short period of transition, I have had the opportunity to meet by phone and conference call with
many of you across the country. It has been a pleasure getting to know you, and I look forward to the
opportunity of meeting face to face. I do plan on attending several events, as the budget permits, to learn from
you, to listen to your concerns, and to identify how best to work together.
To summarize the activity, we saw an increase in the total number of animals of all breeds registered, identified
or recorded in 2014, (156,170 vs 101,280 from the previous year), and a total of 23,632 animals were
transferred compared to 21,050 in 2013. This work was done on behalf of the 48 active member associations, 7
contract associations and the General Stud and Herd Book and Canadian Identification Project.
However, consistent with the past few years, we also saw a decline in the number of Units processed.
Representing a drop of 4.4% (112,334 from 117, 412), we recognize this is a trend that cannot continue without
consequences. We are pleased to welcome Red Devon as a new breed registry, and look forward to working
with Aubrac in the new year as work continues to set up their registry.
With a long and purposeful history, we recognize the important role that CLRC has working with breeders,
breed associations, and other partners in safeguarding the integrity of Canada’s pedigree livestock. Along with
the Board of Directors, I am committed to developing a strategic business plan that will address the issues of
Service, Cost and Quality, and provide guidance to the Board, Staff and key stakeholders for the next several
years. All member Associations and individual breeders will have the opportunity for input through surveys,
workshops and other means into the direction that CLRC should embark in order to provide long term quality
and sustainable services.
In response to immediate needs to support technical operations, we recently invested in upgrading a number of
our computers and systems. We will continue to monitor and budget accordingly in the coming year to allow for
a progressive integration of new systems as required.
I would like to express my appreciation to everyone for their support, especially the Board for their continued
leadership, and the dedicated staff who work diligently and sincerely on behalf of the individual breeders every
day. As we move forward in a challenging environment, I am excited to be working towards the next stage of
CLRC’s future.
Sincerely,
Jim Washer
General Manager

Jim Washer
Directeur général
