Journey to the heart of the Morvan Regional Park…
A new star-shaped walk through the heart of the Morvan National Park which will enable you to
discover, in addition to the magnificent scenery, La Pierre-qui-Vire Abbey and Saint-Léger-Vauban, the
birthplace of Marshall Vauban, the military engineer of Louis XIV.

Day1
2nd walk: Loop around Pierre-qui-Vire – 17 km
• Arrival at Quarré-les-Tombes in the middle of the afternoon and
• A stage that will take you to Pierre-qui-Vire Abbey, a Benedictine
settling into your cottage.

Day 2 to 7
• For your holiday week, we give you 3 ideas for walking itineraries,

3rd walk: Exploring Saint-Léger-Vauban – 14 km
Day 8
• A short stage which takes you through the village of Saint-Léger-
Vauban, the birthplace of Marshall Vauban, Louis XIV's famous
military engineer. He was the builder of many of the fortresses that
stand on the frontiers of what is now French territory. He was able
to adapt his defence systems perfectly to each specific situation,
and was also a renowned winner of sieges, and famous for not
making too stringent demands of his soldiers. As the saying goes:
"a city besieged by Vauban is a city taken, a city defended by
Vauban is impregnable." Possibility of visiting the Morvan open-air
museum and the Vauban centre which is devoted to his work.

• The Pilgrim's Cellars at Vézelay.
• The Zervos museum in Vézelay, home to a collection of artworks built up by
Christian Zervos, the editor of the Cahiers d’Art review from de 1929 to 1970.
Among the works on display, you will find some by: Léger, Laurens,
Giacometti, Calder, Miro, Picasso…
• The Château de Bazoches, bought in 1673 by Marshall Vauban, who used it to
house the engineers working on the plans for fortresses and other military
architectural works.
