Operation Charm with Le Cabaret Canaille
The 31st Franco-Fête in Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square
Toronto, May 14, 2013 – The organizers of Franco-Fête – Toronto’s International Francophone Festival unveiled a
key program component in the Queen City’s biggest Francophone event at today’s monthly breakfast of the
Canadian Club. Among this year’s new features, Le Cabaret Canaille, will be central to the program lineup for the
31st edition of the Franco-Fête, which will take place on June 22 and 23, 2013 in a new location: Yonge-Dundas
Square.
Le CABARET CANAILLE, an original platform aimed at attracting and charming Torontonians!
Set up under a big top, and running rain or shine, Le Cabaret Canaille “raree show”, will bring to the heart of
Toronto a universe peopled with fascinating characters focused on intriguing and charming passersby in the
language of Molière. The Cabaret cast will regale spectators with some of the most popular French songs, a cute
young principal lady-killer will seduce the crowd with his music-hall performances, and a femme fatale will use her
greatest assets to attract the public. An exotic belly dancer will hypnotize anyone who lays eyes on her, and an
intellectual comedian will round out the cast with his gut-splitting tales. The performers behind these saucy
characters: Nathalie Nadon, Mélanie Brûlée, Tricia Foster, Philippe Van de Maele, Julie Kim, Samara (belly
dancer), and a small band. Together, they will provide non-stop entertainment throughout the afternoon and early
evening of Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23.
Le CABARET des PETITES Canailles
Kids (and their parents) will also be reeled in when the Cabaret changes names for the morning, becoming Le
Cabaret des petites canailles, to feature musical comedy workshops presented by Studio Unio, magicians, face
painting for the whole family with Kromatik, interactive theatre, arts and crafts, and much more. And of course, we
can’t forget about Amandine et Rosalie (Saturday show) and the MINI TFO with Louis and Josée (Sunday show).
New location, new ambiance!
Moving the Franco-Fête to Yonge-Dundas Square will enhance its visibility. More than 60,000 passersby and 55,000
vehicles use this intersection every day, located as it is right at the centre of Toronto near the Eaton Centre,
Canada’s busiest shopping centre. “We want to gather Toronto’s Francophones around our event, as well as to
attract other communities, including Anglophones and allophones, so that they can also discover and appreciate
the unique culture and joie de vivre of Francophones around the world!”, added Franco-Fête President Daniel
Savard.
Full program lineup at the end of May
The names of the artists who will be appearing on the Air Canada Main Stage and the full program for the
Franco-Fête will be unveiled at the end of May, but we can already say that everyone can expect an
international tone to this 31st edition of the event. Please note that admission to the Franco-Fête shows is
free for everyone.
