Recent news releases from the Ottawa Police Service of likely interest to residents are reprinted below. Topics
will normally include incidents in Kanata and Stittsville, major violence anywhere in Ottawa, at-large suspects,

You may have seen a person of interest to the police without realizing it. So please take a few moments to
review the “HELP US IDENTIFY AND FIND” and “ROBBERY UNIT’S MOST WANTED” sections on the

- Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
- "Traffic Stop" means that a Pedestrian was stopped by a Traffic Officer.
- Mental Health Act (MHA)
- Failure to appear (FTA)
- Undertaking: a set of conditions placed on the accused by police.
- CC810: Criminal Code of Canada- Sureties to Keep the Peace. This is used where injury or damage is feared and the judge can order
the defendant to enter into a recognizance, with or without sureties to keep the peace and be of good behavior.
- Level 1 assaults are the most common and refer to assaults that cause little to no physical harm to victims.
- Level 2 assaults, or assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm, are those that involve carrying, using or threatening to use a real
or imitation weapon. These types of assault also include incidents that involve hurt or injury to a person that interferes with their
health or comfort and is more than merely transient or trifling in nature.
- Level 3 assaults, also referred to as aggravated assaults, constitute those in which a victim is wounded, maimed, disfigured or whose
life is endangered.

Crime Prevention Ottawa, in partnership with the City of Ottawa, is launching the fourth year of the
Paint It Up! youth engagement mural program.
Funding is available for outdoor mural projects that support graffiti prevention, community
safety and the beautification of Ottawa neighbourhoods through youth empowerment and
community arts. Projects must contribute to a clean, safe and beautiful city by engaging
neighbourhoods and youth in a constructive learning process to create murals to prevent or
deter graffiti.

Prévention du crime Ottawa, en association avec la Ville d’Ottawa, lance pour une quatrième
année le programme À vos pinceaux ! visant à susciter l’engagement des jeunes, à embellir nos
collectivités et à réduire les graffitis.
Le financement est disponible pour les projets de murales extérieures qui supportent la prévention
des graffitis, la sécurité des communautés et l’embellissement des différents quartiers d’Ottawa par
la responsabilisation des jeunes et les arts communautaires. Le projet aide à créer une ville propre,
sûre et belle en finançant des projets qui mobilisent les quartiers et les jeunes dans un processus
d’apprentissage constructif visant à réaliser des murales dans le but de prévenir les graffitis.

Reminder: Adjust your driving according to the changing road conditions

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service is advising drivers to adjust their driving according to the road
conditions, today.
Drivers are reminded that winter road conditions do not cause collisions; collisions are caused by the failure of
drivers to adjust their driving to the changing road conditions.
Here are a few winter safety driving tips:

Give yourself plenty of room to stop when approaching intersections;
Leave plenty of distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you;

Ottawa Police investigating personal robbery at ATM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, February 25, 2013 10:10 am
(Ottawa)-The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is investigating a personal robbery and is seeking the
public's assistance to identify the suspect.
On February 9, 2013, at approximately 3:45 pm, a female was using a bank machine along the 100 block of
Rideau Street. She was depositing an envelope when she was grabbed from behind by a lone male suspect. The
victim was thrown to the ground by the suspect. The suspect made off with a small amount of cash. There were
no injuries.
The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male, athletic build, ruddy complexion, short hair, sunken cheeks,
40-50 years old, 5'9"-5'10" (175 cm to 178 cm), medium build, unshaven with white facial hair. The suspect
was wearing a dark green toque, a large, blue, down-filled, winter coat with a hood.
