Objectives of the course The module aims to provide students with an understanding of the Chinese economic system and an analytical framework for the research on the Chinese economy. Students will develop the ability to comprehend and analyze major theoretical and policy issues in China’s economic development and transformation from a planned economy towards a market economy. 3. Methods This module is composed of seven instructions (2 hours/instruction). No textbook is required. A set of readings for each topic is given. Every student is required to write a short paper on one of the topics instructed. There will be a closed-book final exam. 4. Assessment The weights of assessment are: - In-class participation: 20% - Short paper: 40% - Final exam: 40% 5. Course plan 1. Chinese model of transition 2. Reforms of the Chinese economy 3.
