ALTO Workshop 2013 - IPN Orsay
ALTO Workshop 2013 - SECOND CIRCULAR – We are pleased to inform you that the 2nd Workshop on the physics at the TANDEM/ALTO facility will be held in Orsay, France, on May 14th-15th 2013. The workshop is hosted by the Institut de Physique Nucléaire (IN2P3-CNRS /Université Paris Sud). It is preceded by the official inauguration of the ALTOISOL facility on May 13th. The conference program will begin on Tuesday May 14th at 9:30 and will close on Wednesday 15th around 18:00. Registration will open on Tuesday May 14th at 8:45. Scope of the workshop ALTO is the first electron-driven photo-fission ISOL facility operated in the world. A first workshop was held in 2004 aiming at gathering letters of intent and potential collaborations. After several years of construction and commissioning, the full authorization for operation was granted by the national nuclear safety authorities in year 2012. The aim of this second edition of the ALTO workshop is to discuss the physics results and future opportunities at the ALTO facility combining the capabilities of low energy Tandem beams and neutron-rich fission fragments produced at rest by the ISOL photo-fission installation. The workshop is intended as an occasion to reunite the low-energy community around the ALTO facility and highlight the structure and spectroscopy of neutron rich fission fragments produced at this new ISOL installation. In addition the workshop will serve as an opportunity to explore the other diverse research topics carried out at ALTO, from nuclear structure and reactions and nuclear astrophysics with stable beams to neutron physics/energy applications and molecular ions, with the 15 MV Orsay Tandem accelerator. Scientific Program The workshop scientific program will consist of 30 invited talks from internationally renowned speakers. Each talk will be approximately 20 minutes long with 5 minutes allocated for questions. The sessions will be split into 6 major themes which encompass the diverse range of physics research activities carried out at the TANDEM-ALTO facility of the IPN Orsay: - ISOL radioactive ion beams and exotic nuclei far from stability - Nuclear Astrophysics - Nuclear reactions and clusters in nuclei - In-beam gamma-spectroscopy at Tandem energies - Neutron sources and nuclear data - Ion matter interactions The scientific program of the workshop is available on the workshop web site: http://ipnweb.in2p3.fr/wsalto2013/programWSalto2013.pdf Among the confirmed speakers are: F. Nowacki (IPHC Strasbourg), J. Winger (Mississippi State Univ), A. Kankainen (University of Edinburgh), D.T. Yordanov (ISOLDE CERN), S. Franchoo (IPN Orsay), S.
