ducati gt1000 center stand installation
DUCATI GT1000 CENTER STAND INSTALLATION (Kit # 96759907B) 1. Unpack kit. Make sure you have all parts shown in above figure. Kit is supplied with stand in extended position, to keep springs tight. 2. Install lift handle rubber, over aluminum lift handle and bolt as shown below. 3. Insert spring into handle (over screw). Spring inserts into hole. Insert the other part of spring into hole on lift handle bracket and tighten screw to bracket. You will need to insert spring and then twist handle to tension spring. Handle will come to rest against a stop in the handle. 4. Install rubber stop into main part of stand. I used a c‐clamp and socket as shown below to press rubber into hole. 5. Install stand on bike! I started on the right side of bike, and I’ll use the drawing below to identify parts on the right side of the bike. 6. Loosen both screws (#13), and remove left #13 screw and #16 washer. You will need an 8mm metric allen wrench. Be careful not to mar the RH footpeg holder plate (#1). (I don’t have any torque specs. So pay attention to how tight bolts were tightened on bike, or try and get them from a Ducati shop). At this stage I used a flat blade screw driver to pry the holder plate away from the engine casing to ensure that the RH center stand bracket can be inserted into the space created by removing washer #16 washer. 7. There is a hole that goes through the engine case just to the left of the #13 screw that was removed. The bracket with spring mounts to these two holes. At this stage, I removed the LH bracket from the center stand and forced the center stand into the “up” position This is the position that the center stand will be in when not used. The springs will be very loose and can fall off. The rectangular steel piece that comes with kit can be tapped on over the bottom spring hooks to keep the spring from falling off when fully relaxed. The RH bracket has a tapped metric thread. At the time I was installing the kit, I did not know why this was tapped, but realized during installation, that a washer and proper sized metric nut attached here will prevent the RH bracket from coming loose during installation. Unfortunately, they did not provide this with the kit. I STRONGLY recommend adding this nut and washer, because the bracket popped off several times during my installation because I did not use them, and cost me a lot of trouble and time. 8. Install the RH bracket with center stand and springs to the two holes shown in the picture above. Tap the long bolt through the bracket and engine case until the screw just reaches the end of the hole on the LH side. 9. Now, working on the LH side, remove the shifter linkage screw #17 and nut #20 (10mm). The linkage drops down and allows access to the two #28 screws. Remove the right most #28 screw with washer #32, and loosen the left most #28 screw. Again, use a flat blade screw driver to pry the LH footpeg holder plate #1 from the engine casing. This will allow the LH center stand bracket to be inserted in between engine casing and LH footpeg holder plate. 10. Insert the LH bracket into the end of the center stand, under the bike. Lift and move the bracket into position so that the #28 screw that was removed can be inserted through holderplate #1 and LH center stand bracket and into engine casing. Loosely tightened the screw. Before proceeding to next step, lift the center stand up and check to see how the rubber bumper on the stand hits the exhaust clamp. Reposition clamp (if needed) to allow the center stand to fully retract. This will make it easier to attach the LH center stand bracket in the next step. 11. Lift the LH bracket with center stand up until the hole with long screw in engine case is aligned. It helps at this point to have someone lightly tap the long screw through the bracket hole as you hold it in alignment. 12. Tighten the large nut (14mm) that came with the kit over the long screw. Tighten all the screws that secure the center stand brackets on both sides. 13. Re‐install the shifter linkage. 14. Install the lift handle on the bike. One allen screw attaches through small end of bracket into tapped hole in frame. I inserted the anodized washer between frame and bracket. There is paint in the concave part of the hole in the bracket that makes the screw head fit tight, but it will screw in with a little effort. 15. Attach the other screw with shaped washer through frame and into large end of bracket. Finito!
