LECTURE SERIES SCI-176 on “Mission Systems
NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANISATION
RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY ORGANISATION
LECTURE SERIES
SCI-176
Background
Lecture Series Director
The mission of RTO is to conduct and promote co-operative research and
information exchange. RTO consists of a three level organization: the
Research and Technology Board (RTB), the Panels and the Technical
Teams. The Systems Concepts and Integration (SCI) is one of the seven
Panels under the RTB.
Dr Ing Luigi CROVELLA (ITA)
[email protected]
The Mission of the SCI Panel is to advance knowledge concerning
advanced systems, concepts, integration, engineering techniques and
technologies across the spectrum of platforms and operating environments
to assure cost-effective mission area capabilities.
Theme
on “Mission Systems Engineering”
Recent RTO activities have indicated a strong need for more efficient
Mission Systems Engineering.
sur “ Ingénierie des Systèmes de Mission "
Increasing complexity of the Mission Systems in line with a growing threat,
rapidly advancing technology and competitive pressures demand more
effective and efficient System developments and request to reduce the time
to market and the costs, whether developing new products or improving
existing ones.
organized by the
Systems Concepts & Integration Panel
to be held in

Enrol on-line at http://www.rta.nato.int/meetings.asp
If you are unable to enrol via the internet, please use the
attached enrolment form to enrol via fax.
Simultaneous interpretation into French will only be
provided in Poland. All other presentations and discussions
will be held in English.
Specific LS objectives concentrate on the most critical and troublesome
areas in Mission Systems design and development: operational and logistic
scenario, requirements definition, top-down approach, work breakdown
structures, modelling and simulation, partitioning, interface management,
trade-off studies, rapid prototyping, system integration, ground and flight
testing, verification, validation and commissioning, certification, risk
analysis and control.
In addition the impact of the new technology on Mission Systems
architecture and life cycle are discussed, with particular regard to the
Integrated Modular Avionics. Methodologies are described and actual case
histories will serve as practical examples of modern and complex Mission
Systems.
