NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 14, 2009 Contact: Ray Fedele, VantagePoint, Inc. [email protected] • 864.331.1275 WEG TO INTRODUCE W22 ELECTRIC MOTOR AT EASA NEMA Premium motor increases productivity, lowers maintenance cost and saves energy ATLANTA, G.A., June 14, 2009—WEG Electric Corp. (www.weg.net), a leading global supplier of motors, drives, controls, transformers, and generators, will introduce the new W22 Electric Motor at the EASA (Electrical Apparatus Service Association) Conference in St. Louis, MO on June 14 - 16, 2009. “A NEMA Premium motor, the WEG W22 is a completely new concept for the industry,” said Dale Basso, Motors Manager, WEG Electric Corp. “This motor will deliver excellent cost benefits, optimization of energy resources, updated electrical features, noise level reduction and easier maintenance.” The new WEG W22 Electric Motor delivers high performance with maximum energy efficiency. As a NEMA Premium motor, the W22 is eligible for rebate incentives where offered. Designed with performance and energy savings in mind, the W22 provides low cost of ownership throughout the entire motor lifetime. Built to last, W22 motors are made with high-quality FC-200 cast iron, assuring maximum durability and high performance in aggressive conditions. Design Details Redesigned to provide improved air flow, the W22 features a new reliable cooling system that also reduces noise level. The aerodynamic design of the fan cover increases effective airflow, thus minimizing losses due to the recirculation of air between fan and fan cover. Additionally, the cooling system contributes to lower winding and bearing temperatures, resulting in longer life. PAGE 2 WEG W22 Electric Motor The terminal box features increased internal space and easier cable handling and connection. The dimensions were optimized to provide more space to the power supply cable inlet and to auxiliary connectors. The terminal box can be mounted on top, left, or right side of the motor on frames 447T and above for easy field modification of these large stock motors. The eyebolts have also been repositioned for easier handling in the application. Additionally, motor feet are solid providing a more resistant structure against vibration. The seal system has been upgraded with increased dust and moisture protection, as well as protection to high-pressure cleaning. The W22 line will be the basis for further WEG motor developments.
