Fremdsprachenlernen
DESCRIPTION:
Aims and objectives of this two-year project are the development, marketing and
distribution of learning materials, following the concept of Staging Foreign Language
Learning in the primary classroom. The main innovative focus of the project consists of
learner-involvement activities such as language games, singing, dancing, rhythmic work,
handicraft, riddles, etc. in a proper learning environment. The cultural variety of the
materials supplied by the partner countries is a further contribution to the intercultural
awareness and (language-) learning. The target languages are English and German.
The project obtains its desired synergy effect through the logical follow up to the already
completed LINGUA-A project ''Staging Foreign Language Learning'' and theand the present
LINGUA 2 project ''Materials, Tools, and Media for Staging Foreign Language Learning''. A
second synergy effect results through the fact that the above concept has for the most
part been completed and now only needs to be adapted to the requirement of primary
schools.
Together with the project partners teaching materials will be developed that meet the
following criteria for good foreign language lessons in primary schools: multisensorial,
action-oriented, playful, story-based. Furthermore there will be key elements of performing
games, such as: songs - rhymes - chants - raps and Total Physical Response as a
method, in which the right mixture leads to success.
After testing and improving them, the teaching materials will be placed with a market
leader in educational publishing, as in former LINGUA projects.

Travel to Greece, Greek language level III, Greek for Foreigners
DESCRIPTION:
1. The objective of this proposal is to develop educational material in Multimedia form with
the purpose to teach the Greek language to foreigners at an advanced third level. The
method will consist of material on CD and the Internet. It will be supplemented by an
accompanying book
2. Students in Greece and abroad will use this material. Schools operated by the partners
will utilize it to teach Modern Greek. There approximately 2000 students of different origins
learn Greek annually (university students, technical schools' students, immigrants in
Greece, foreign staff of Greek companies and organizations abroad, translators, etc).
Besides, hundreds of schools of varying levels exist within Greece and other countries,
teaching Greek to foreigners, with tens of thousands of students.
3. All partners associated with this programme will cooperate on the following:
- Initial specification of the material to be developed.
- Collection of the necessary educational material.
- Development of the educational methodology.
- Production of the supporting educational material in printed form.
- Production of an educational CD (Multimedia CD).
- Production of the educational material on the Internet.
- Testing and relative corrections of the educational material already created.
- Organization of seminars for the presentation of the project's results.
4. The final product will be distributed on a Multimedia CD, while timely and constantly
updated material will be presented on the Internet. There will also be an accompanying
book with instructions and relative material.
The material will be suitable for both classroom and self-teaching use.
We must note that this CD will be the third in a series of three, which started in 1996. The
first and second level CDs covering the teaching of Greek to foreigners are already in use.

DESCRIPTION:

The Dinocrocs grow up
DESCRIPTION:
The objective of the project is to complete the foreign languages learning path for children
from the age of 3 to the age of 8 by producing the necessary teaching/learning materials
that started with ''The Adventures of Hocus and Lotus'' for children from 3 to 5 and are now
completed with the series ''The Dinocrocs grow up'' for children in the first two years of the
Primary School.
Target groups that will benefit directly from the material produced in this project are
children in the first years of Primary School that continue learning foreign languages with
the narrative format model. Also children simply watching the cartoons in TV at home will
benefit from these products as they can follow the stories that are specially designed for
being understood in the new language. Expected benefits are that children learn the
foreign language fast and more effectively than with usual methods and through a pleasant
extremely interactive and theatrical approach. Intermediate target groups are teachers who
are getting training in the new methodology in order to be able to teach children (Please
see the site: www-hocus-lotus.edu were training is offered also online), and also parents
who learn the new language with their children.
The main activities in implementing the project are:
-Translations from EN and adaptations in DE, FR and IT of scripts, story texts, exercises,
song texts;
-Composition of the songs, singing and reciting in the 4 languages;
-Production of 12 cartoons and all connected activities for contractual arrangements with
the other financing agencies (RAI - Italian State Television) and the cartoons producer
(Musicartoon, that is a partner in the project). Doubling the 12 new to be produced
cartoons and the 18 existing ones in FR and IT.
-Publication of the produced materials.
-Diffusion of the products
The main outputs of this project are the following teaching/learning materials:
-Cartoons in DE and EN for story units 19-24 an

Lingu@net Europa PLUS: expanding the virtual languages resource centre
DESCRIPTION:
Lingu@net Europa PLUS builds on Lingu@net Europa, the virtual languages resource
centre (www.linguanet-europa.org), developed with Socrates / Leonardo support (19982001).
The Lingu@net Europa PLUS project's objectives are:
- to make it easier for adult learners throughout the EU to gain easy access to relevant,
good quality on-line language learning resources;
- to open Lingu@net Europa up to thousands of new users by adding 11 new access
languages.
The project will do this by:
- making Lingu@net Europa accessible in 17 European languages. It is currently
accessible in six languages: Dutch; English; French; German; Italian; Spanish. The 11
new access languages will be: Bulgarian; Danish; Estonian; Finnish; Greek; Icelandic;
Lithuanian; Maltese; Polish; Portuguese; and Swedish;
- enhancing the content relevant to adult learners in all 17 access languages i.e.
increasing the number of resources suitable for learners (as opposed to teachers /
researchers);
- offering advice and guidance to adult learners in all 17 access languages through the
''Lingu@net Learner Zone''. This on-line tool will be developed as part of the project and
include 'learner-friendly' pathways to help learners find and make the most of resources
relevant to their needs. It will draw on the Common European Framework of Reference for
Language Learning and multilingual tools developed during the European Year of
Languages 2001;
- promoting the availability of the service to adult learners throughout Europe via
appropriate channels.

HLS- Hungarian Language School Development of a web-based and printed
teaching/learning material
DESCRIPTION:
The objective is to develop an up to date model for the teaching of Hungarian as a Foreign
Language (HFL) in Europe, where the status of the language is one of lesser currency.
The Hungarian Language School (HLS), centred in Budapest, has successfully developed,
implemented and published a series of learning packages (Magyar Iskola). The Magyar
Iskola packages exploit the mainstream methodology of communicative language learning,
as successfully used in the teaching of other second or foreign languages. The most richly
illustrated Hungarian textbook ever published helping to make the learning process
enjoyable as well as effective.
The HLS Programme wishes to adapt and further develop this core package to the needs
of identified HFL learners.
This programme is based on the up to the moment Magyar Iskola HFL packages, the first
to be developed consciously taking the Common European Reference Framework criteria
into account, and providing an integrated series of courses. Material will be developed,
piloted and produced for the specific targeted groups, with provision of explanatory and
contrastive elements, teacher guides in German and Romanian. The changeover from
outdated materials and teaching methods, the provision of opportunity to access
interactive language learning could be further extended through versions in English, Finnish
and French. This will allow learners of HFL to be of equal status to other European citizens
engaged in learning another language.
The programme will provide an ideal model for the teaching of the other smaller languages
of Europe.
List of envisaged products:
two teaching packages of a Hungarian language course, adapting and digitalising the
''Magyar Iskola'' method to the demands of learners in German speaking countries and
in Romania;
interactive material consisting of two parts, 20 units each;
a handbook for teachers.

DESCRIPTION:
experts.

MULTIHUN - Development of a Multimedia Hungarian Language Learning Package
DESCRIPTION:
The teaching of Hungarian to foreigners is a timely issue considering the imminent
enlargement of the EU. In the pre-accession state, the demand for up-to-date course
books of Hungarian with authentic texts and exercises is growing rapidly. The project
intends to replace existing out-of-date materials, which were designed according to
traditional methods of grammar-translation. Instead, the MULTIHUN takes a
communicative approach to language teaching.
The project intends to provide learners with a complex, graded multimedia languagelearning package (MULTIHUN). It is designed to be flexible enough to satisfy the needs of
organized groups as well as adult, autonomous learners. The CD-ROM, video and other
toolkits, will especially help the latter group. The activities designed to reach the objectives
will be: creation, testing, evaluating and production of the package which will consist of
two sets (Beginners' and Intermediate levels), each offering a course book, a grammar
reference book, a video, and audio CD and a CD-ROM with exercises developing
integrated skills. By facilitating the teaching of a less known/used European language that
shortly becomes an official language of the EU, the project promotes language
learning/teaching and prepares the enlargement of the Union. Some features of MULTIHUN
also addresses to lifelong learning and equal opportunities for disabled persons.
