FRENCH COURSES FOR THE SUMMER 2016
6 levels (corresponding to the CEFR*) are proposed, from A1 (complete beginner) to A2,
B1, B2, C1 and C2.
Two sessions are organized :
1st session: 5th - 27th July 2016
A monthly session corresponds to 75 hours of teaching.

NB: July 14th (national day) and August 15th are Public Holiday in France.

July Session 2016 (75h): from July 5th to July 27th included.
July 5th, 2016:
10:30: general meeting with all students and staff.
12:30 welcome buffet student/teachers.
13:15: placement test on line for the students who failed to take it beforehand.
14:30: evaluation of the tests; communication of results.
July 6th, 2016: beginning of the courses and workshops.
Language classes are held every morning from Monday to Friday, workshops in the
afternoon.
Official Competence Test in French, TCF, (optional): REGISTRATION DEADLINE:
June, 20th.
July 27th, 2016: last day of class and official distribution of the certificates.

TEACHING
French teaching at the UIEN is geared towards communication and is based on the Council of
Europe’s recommendations for modern languages (CEFR). All students are tested upon their
arrival and are subsequently placed into groups according to their level. During your training,
the teaching support team will be at your disposal to help ensure your individual progress.
PROGRAM
Guidelines used by the teaching staff to draft the language-culture courses and workshops.
Morning: LANGUAGE CULTURE CLASS
Monday-Friday 9-12.30 a.m.
Afternoon: WORKSHOPS
1- Mondays and Thursdays = 12 hours
2- Tuesdays and Fridays = 12 hours
According to their level in French, our students will have to follow two workshops.
Aims of the language-culture classes:
This class aims to help students of all levels improve their oral communication skills whilst
also developing their written language abilities in professional, academic and everyday
situations.
Aims of the workshops:
The workshops aim to provide students with as much practice as possible in diverse aspects of
French language and culture. Depending upon the chosen theme, emphasis is placed varyingly
upon comprehension and expression, both oral and written.
Workshops will be presented by teachers at the start of each session to help students making
their choice.
We reserve the right to cancel certain workshops if an insufficient number of students enrol.

Examples of workshops according to the levels :
For summer 2016
Niveau A1 : pratique de l'oral, culture française.
Niveau A2 : perfectionnement orthographique, gastronomie française, pratique de l'oral,
chansons françaises.
Niveau B1 : français des affaires, français juridique, cinéma, cinéma critique, civilisation
française à travers les médias, français du tourisme, carnet de voyage, perfectionnement
lexical, théâtre, écriture créative, presse et actualité.
Niveaux B2, C1/C2 : perfectionnement morpho-synthaxique, méthodologie de l'oral
universitaire, méthodologie de l'écrit universitaire, Antiquité en Méditerranée, esthétique et
philosophie, Nice et la Côte d'Azur - histoire et patrimoine, se préparer aux épreuves du
DALF.
ECTS CREDITS
Each session is equivalent to 6 ECTS credits, divided as follows:
- Language-culture classes: 4 ECTS credits
- Workshops: 2 ECTS credits
To obtain ECTS credits, students must meet all academic requirements communicated to
them.
N.B. Only the Educational Committee for Prior Learning Recognition of your college is
entitled to recognize the E.C.T.S. you gained at the U.I.E.N. for the purposes of your degree.
CERTIFICATES
At the end of the session, students will be issued a certificate stating their level of language
proficiency as well as the number of classes attended. Levels correspond to those defined by
the Council of Europe:
A1: Breakthrough
B1: Threshold
C1: Autonomous
A2: Usual
B2: Vantage
C2: Mastery
