Accommodation and Further Information
The details of the hotels, bed and breakfasts, gîtes d’étape and campsites listed below have
been assembled from various sources, including tourist publications, websites and personal
experience. This is not a comprehensive list of accommodation along the Sentier Cathare,
nor can it be completely up-to-date (in particular, e-mail addresses and website names can
change quickly and often), but it should be sufficient to get you started on your pre-trek
preparations.
The département of Aude, which is the main organisation behind the Cathar Way, now
has a website dedicated to the trail: www.lesentiercathare.com. The site incorporates a lot of
information on accommodation.
In addition, it is possible to download free from this website the useful "Sentier Cathare –
Carnet de Voyage": (www.lesentiercathare.com/documents/carnet-sentier-cathare-2012.pdf)
which also has a great deal of practical information.
The tourist offices and town halls (mairies) will often be able to provide further information
about accommodation, shops, taxis, buses, luggage-carrying services and other facilities in
their localities. They can also provide information about castles and other monuments and
places of interest. Many of them now have websites and e-mail addresses.
Most of the towns and villages listed have shops, such as a baker (boulangerie) and a
grocery store (épicerie), and bars and/or cafés. Larger places also have restaurants and post
offices.
Places where there are likely to be no shops or bars (or very few) are marked ***.
The main towns (Port-la-Nouvelle, Sigean, St-Paul-de-Fenouillet, Quillan and Foix) have a
full range of shops and services, including banks. Those towns are also accessible by public
transport.
CH stands for chambres d’hôte, usually equivalent to a small, family-run hotel or bed and
breakfast.
Five-digit numbers in brackets, for example (11360), give the postal code for the town or
village to which the number refers. So, for instance, to write to the l’Amandier Hotel in
Durban-Corbières at the end of Stage 1, address your letter to:
