FUND+ ANNOUNCES EUR 125 MILLION CLOSING OF
LIFE SCIENCES IMPACT FUND
Dr Debasish Roychowdhury appointed independent board member and
Chairman of the Scientific Guidance Committee
Leuven, Belgium, 26 October 2016 – FUND+ NV/SA today announced the recent closing of a new
Belgian Life Sciences fund. The fund has exceeded its EUR 100 Million target and reached EUR 125
Million, making Fund+ one of the larger new Life Sciences funds in Europe in 2016.
Fund+ (www.fundplus.be) is an open ended Fund for long term equity investments in innovative life
sciences companies with a focus on Belgium. The fund wants to create sustainable shareholders’
value, contribute to the development of a leadership position of the Belgian Life Sciences sector and
generate a tangible, beneficial societal impact.
The fund has already started to invest, taking positions in 6 promising companies. The portfolio
includes Ogeda SA (previously Euroscreen SA), active in the treatment of women’s health disorders,
three cell therapy companies (Promethera Biosciences SA, MaSTherCell SA and Novadip SA), two
companies active in the field of immuno-oncology (iTeos Therapeutics SA, eTheRNA
immunotherapies NV). Fund+ intends to invest in 12 to 15 companies across the areas of drug
development, medical devices and in vitro diagnostics.
Fund+ was created in May last year by Désiré Collen and is operating from the Begijnhof in Leuven.
Fund+ raised over EUR 125 Million in financial commitments and is significantly supported by its
public shareholders (FPIM/SFPI, SRIW, Meusinvest, Spinventure and Sambrinvest) as well as by a
dozen private investors and family offices.

Fund+ also strengthened its board with Mr. François Fontaine, as representative of FPIM/SFPI, and
Dr Debasish Roychowdhury as independent board member and chairman of the newly created
Scientific Guidance Committee. Mr. Fontaine held several positions at federal government bodies
and, as Investment Manager, he is the permanent representative of SFPI at the board of multiple
companies in which SFPI holds a participation. Mr. Fontaine obtained a Law degree at ULB, and a
degree in Fiscal Sciences from ESSEF/ICHEC. Dr Roychowdhury is a leader in the pharmal industry
with a strong background in oncology R&D, and regulatory and commercial operations. Debasish
was the SVP of Global Oncology and Head of the Global Oncology Division at Sanofi until November
2013. Prior to that, he served as the VP for Development at GlaxoSmithKline and directed the
oncology global regulatory and clinical group at Eli Lilly. He serves as an independent board member
of Celyad and Radius Pharma.

Chris Buyse, Managing Partner
Chris Buyse was CFO at ThromboGenics NV from September 2006 until June 2014. He has 25 years of experience in
international company finance and in running and establishing best financial practice. He was previously CFO of
the Belgian biotechnology company CropDesign,.Before this, he was Finance Director of WorldCom/MCI Belux, and
was CFO and interim CEO of Keyware Technologies, In addition, he held several financial positions at Suez
Lyonnaise des Eaux and Unilever. He is currently serving as an independent Board Member of a few companies,
mostly active in life sciences such as Celyad, Bone Therapeutics, Iteos and Bioxodes.
Paul Magrez, Partner
Paul MAGREZ holds a M.D. degree and a Ph.D. degree in Medical Computer Sciences both at the ULB (Brussels). He
has more than 30 years of experience in in-vitro diagnostics,, clinical biology, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical
industries. He held several senior and CEO positions at UCB, GlaxoWelcome, GSK, Innogenetics, Theradiag and
Cerba European Lab. In 2011, he founded his own consulting firm in support of SMEs and start-ups..
Philippe Monteyne, Partner
Philippe MONTEYNE holds an M.D. degree trained as a Neurologist and a Ph.D. in Viral Immunology, both at the
UCL (Univ. Cathol. de Louvain), followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at Pasteur Institute, Paris. During the last 20
years, he held senior positions in top pharma companies such as SmithKline Beecham, GSK Biologicals (as Head of
Global Vaccine Development) and GSK Rare Diseases (Head of Development and Chief Medical Officer) and SANOFI
(Vice President R&D France). He is also currently member of different Strategic Advisory Committees. He is also
visiting Professor of Neurology at the UCL.
Jan Van den Bossche, Partner
Jan Van den Bossche holds a Master Degree in Applied Economic Sciences at the KULeuven. He worked for more
than 12 years as a biotech analyst at Petercam. He was involved in numerous public and private transactions of
Belgian and Dutch Biotech companies, such as ThromoboGenics, Tigenix, UCB, AMT (Uniqure), IBA, MDxHealth .
Before he joined Fund+, he was for more than 2 years part of the investor relations team at the Dutch life sciences
and materials sciences company DSM (Geleen, NL).

kapitaalsverhoging heeft afgerond van een nieuw Belgisch Life Sciences fonds. Het fonds heeft de initiële
doelstelling van EUR 100 Miljoen overtroffen en heeft nu EUR 125 Miljoen ter beschikking. Door deze
kapitaalsverhoging is Fund+ één van de grootste nieuwe Life Sciences investeerders in Europa in 2016.
Fund+ (www.fundplus.be) is een fonds met onbeperkte looptijd en investeert, met een focus op België, in het
kapitaal van innovatieve Life Sciences ondernemingen. Het fonds wil duurzame aandeelhouderswaarde
creëren en een bijdrage leveren aan de ontwikkeling van een leidende positie voor de Belgische Life Sciences
sector door het realiseren van een tastbare, positieve maatschappelijke impact.
Het fonds heeft reeds geïnvesteerd in 6 ondernemingen. Het betreft Ogeda SA (voorheen Euroscreen SA),
actief op het gebied van specifieke aandoeningen bij vrouwen, 3 ondernemingen actief in het domein van de
celtherapie (Promethera Biosciences SA, MaSTherCell SA en Novadip SA) en 2 bedrijven die aan een
doorbraak werken in de immuno-oncologie (iTeos Therapeutics SA, eTheRNA immunotherapies NV). Fund +
will een portefeuille van 12 tot 15 ondernemingen uitbouwen die gedifferentieerd is van diagnostica over
therapeutische oplossingen tot nieuwe medische toestellen.
Fund+ is opgericht door Désiré Collen in mei 2015 en is gebaseerd in het Begijnhof in Leuven. Fund + heeft
EUR 125 Miljoen ter beschikking en is ondersteund door publieke aandeelhouders (FPIM/SFPI, SRIW,
Meusinvest, Spinventure en Sambrinvest) en een selecte group van private investeerders.

Guidance Committee. Mr. Fontaine heeft verschillende posities bekleed bij federale overheidsdiensten en, als

verschillende ondernemingen waarin FPIM/SFPI geïnvesteerd heeft. Mr. Fontaine heeft een rechtendiploma
van ULB en een specialisatie fiscale wetenschappen van ESSEF/ICHEC. Dr Roychowdhury is een leider in de
Farma industrie met een sterke achtergrond in kankeronderzoek, regelgeving en commerciele activiteiten.
Debasish was SVP Global Oncology en hoofd van de Global Oncology divisie van Sanofi tot november 2013.
Daarvoor was hij VP Clinical Development bij GlaxoSmithKline en leidde hij de Global Oncology Regulatory
Group bij Eli Lilly. Hij is vandaag ook onafhankelijk lid van de Raad van Bestuur bij Celyad en Radius Pharma.

industrie. Hij had verschillende senior en CEO functies bij UCB, GlaxoWelcome, GSK, Innogenetics, Theradiag
en Cerba European Lab. Sinds 2011 was hij consultant voor starters en KMOs.
Philippe Monteyne, Partner
Philippe Monteyne is neuroloog van opleiding en heeft een doctoraat behaald in virale immunology aan de
UCL. Hij was als post-doctoraal onderzoeker verbonden aan het Pasteur Institute in Paris. Gedurende de
laatste 20 jaar heeft hij verschillende senior functies gehad in grote Farma bedrijven zoals SmithKline
Beecham, GSK Biologicals (als Head of Global Vaccine Development) en GSK Rare Diseases (Head of
Development en Chief Medical Officer) en SANOFI (Vice President R&D France). Hij is lid van verschillende

Jan Van den Bossche heeft een diploma Toegepaste Economische Wetenschappen van KUL. Gedurende
meer dan 12 jaar was hij als Biotech en Life Sciences analyst bij Petercam betrokken bij verschillende

Dr Debasish Roychowdhury est nommé membre indépendant du Conseil
d'Administration et Président du Comité d'Orientation Scientifique
Louvain, Belgique, le 26 Octobre 2016 - FUND+ NV / SA, a annoncé aujourd'hui la clôture d'un nouveau
fonds belge en sciences de la vie. Le fonds a dépassé sa cible de 100 millions EUR et a atteint un montant de
125 millions d'euros, ce qui fait de Fund+ un des nouveaux fonds les plus importants en sciences de la vie en
Europe.
Fund+ (www.fundplus.be) est un fonds à durée indéterminée pour les placements en actions à long terme
dans des sociétés innovantes en sciences de la vie, avec une orientation particulière sur la Belgique. Le fonds
veut créer de la valeur actionnariale durable, contribuer à l'élaboration d'une position de leader dans le
secteur des sciences de la vie et générer un impact social tangible et bénéfique.
Le fonds a déjà commencé à investir, à prendre des positions dans 6 entreprises prometteuses. Le
portefeuille comprend Ogeda SA (anciennement Euroscreen SA), actif dans le traitement des troubles de la
santé des femmes, trois sociétés de thérapie cellulaire (Promethra Biosciences SA, MaSTherCell SA et
Novadip SA), deux sociétés actives dans le domaine de l'Immuno oncologie (Iteos Therapeutics SA, Etherna
NV). Fund+ se concentrera principalement sur la Belgique et cherchera à investir dans 12 à 15 entreprises

Fund+ a été créé en mai de l'année dernière par Désiré Collen et est basée au Béguinage de Louvain. Fund+
a levé plus de 125 millions d'euros d’engagements financiers et est fortement soutenu par ses actionnaires

est un chef de file dans l'industrie pharmaceutique avec une solide expérience dans la recherche et le
développement en oncologie, et les opérations réglementaires et commerciales. Debasish a été Senior Vice
President of Global Oncology et Head de la division Global Oncology at Sanofi jusq’au novembre 2013. Avant
cela, il a servi comme vice-président pour le Développement chez GlaxoSmithKline et dirigé le groupe
réglementaire global et clinique en oncologie chez Eli Lilly. Il a été Chief Medical Officer chez Seragon avant
son acquisition par Roche et est membre indépendant du board de Celyad SA and de Radius Pharma. Dans
sa carrière universitaire, Debasish a servi en tant que membre du corps professoral de l'Université de
Cincinnati. Il a été formé à la All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi et à l’University of California,
San Francisco.

Philippe MONTEYNE est titulaire d'un diplôme Docteur en Médecine, neurologue, et d'un doctorat en
Immunologie, tous deux à l'UCL (Univ. Cathol. de Louvain), suivi d'un stage post-doctoral à l'Institut Pasteur,
Paris. Au cours des 20 dernières années, il a occupé des postes de direction dans les grandes entreprises
pharmaceutiques telles que SmithKline Beecham, GSK Biologicals (comme responsable du développement
mondial pour les vaccins) et GSK Maladies Rares (Directeur du Développement et Chief Medical Officer) et

Paul Magrez, Partner
Paul MAGREZ est titulaire d'un diplôme Docteur en Médecine et d’un doctorat en Computer Sciences (1985). Il a
plus de 30 ans d'expérience dans le diagnostic in-vitro, la biologie clinique, la biotechnologie (vaccins), et
l’industrie pharmaceutique dont 15 ans comme CEO. Il a occupé plusieurs postes chez UCB, GSK,
GlaxoWelcome, Innogenetics, Theradiag et Pasteur CERBA. En 2011, il fonde sa propre société de conseil pour
PME et des start-ups.
Jan Van den Bossche, Partner
Jan Van den Bossche est titulaire d'une maîtrise en sciences économiques appliquées à la KULeuven. Il a
travaillé pendant plus de 12 ans comme analyste de biotechnologie chez Petercam. Il a participé à de
nombreuses opérations publiques et privées de sociétés de biotechnologie belges, néerlandaises et françaises,
telles que ThromboGenics, Galapagos, DevGen, Ablynx, Tigenix et couvrait plus de 20 sociétés à titre d'analyste.
Avant de rejoindre le Fund+, il a été pendant plus de 2 ans une partie de l'équipe de la relation avec les

eTheRNA immunotherapies was founded in 2013 as a spin-off of the VUB. Its
mission is to help patients to overcome certain cancers and infectious diseases by
developing novel immunotherapies that target the fundamental role of dendritic
cells (DCs) in the human immune system. eTheRNA’s proprietary mRNA-based

iTeos Therapeutics
Company description
iTeos was founded in 2011 as a spin off of the Ludwig Cancer Research (LICR) and
de Duve Institute at University of Louvain (UCL). iTeos’ mission is to discover and
develop next generation cancer immune therapies (small molecules and biologics)
that offer a longer and more effective clinical response to a larger group of cancer
patients compared to the current first generation of immunotherapies, including
checkpoint inhibitors and cancer vaccines. iTeos’ first wave of next generation
immunotherapy projects target to offset the potent immunosuppressive
mechanisms triggered by tumors. iTeos second wave of projects aims at increasing
the immunogenicity of non-inflamed or “cold” tumors, which do not respond to
current immuno-oncology treatments. The company entered into a strategic
collaboration with Pfizer in December 2014. As a result of this collaboration, a Phase
1 study in brain cancer patients was initiated in September 2016, with a small
molecule inhibitor of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO1), an immunosuppressive
enzyme that is induced in a wide range of cancers.

Novadip
Company description
Novadip Biosciences is a regenerative medicine spin-off company from the
University of Louvain (UCL) and St. Luc University Hospital, founded in 2013.
While Novadip’s first mission was to treat patients with bone defects and bone
diseases, its innovative adipose stem cell-based technology offers potential for
further applications, including skin regeneration.
Key activities
Novadips proprietary NVD-001 is an autologous tissue-engineered product. This
scaffold-free, 3-dimensional mouldable and biological ‘putty’ enables the
reconstruction of large and small bone defects without the need of any biomaterial.
Two proof of concept studies for NVD-001 on relevant animal models (pigs) and
clinical data from 15 patients treated under the European hospital exemption rule
are available to support development. The next clinical study should start in the
coming months.
NVD-002 is a biological bandage for dermal reconstruction, designed to avoid
formation of painful scars from wounds resulting from a range of diseases that do
not heal as expected. Seven patients have already been treated with NVD-002 under
the European hospital exemption rule.
Both NVD-001 and NVD-002 are obtained from adipose-derived mesenchymal stem
cells (AMSCs) cells isolated from a minute quantity of the patient’s own fatty tissue.
The autologous stem cells promote a perfect engraftment and in vivo tissue
regeneration with all native bone or skin properties.
