Center on December 3, 2002.
Un film a été tourné par A. Pakula à partir du roman, avec Meryl Streep dans le rôle principal, et un opéra a été
écrit et représenté au Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, le 7 décembre 2002 [l'opéra n'a pas encore été
reproduit sur cassette ou DVD à ce jour à notre connaissance].

la manière la plus courte de comprendre quels sont les enjeux complexes auxquels l'auteur s'est trouvé
confronté lorsqu'il écrivit Sophie’s Choice, en particulier en ce qui concerne la problématique opposant et/ou
rapprochant l'esclavage dans le sud des Etats-Unis et la 'solution finale’ nazie.
The Confessions of Nat Turner (Random House, New York, 1967), autre grand roman de William Styron, est
consacré à l'esclavage à travers les confessions de Nat Turner, figure historique bien réelle.
