After a great year with them, the time has come to say thank you and farewell to Pastor Dave and Kay Johnson this month. We have been so blessed to have them here, enjoying their kindness, wisdom and friendship. We are deeply grateful to have had this year of transition together. In mid-January they will return home to: 678 Pond Willow Lane, Venice, FL 34292. May God bless them in the year ahead! Adult Discipleship Classes These classes will begin on Sunday, January 11th. Which will you choose to participate in? At 9:30 a.m.: Flying Closer to the Flame (Holy Spirit): Led by Jim Nash and Mike Meidel in room 15. Knowledge of the Holy (a book by Tozer): Led by Sharon Peterson in room 13. Parenting: Led by Anna Rice in room 18-19 At 11 a.m.: Colossians and Philemon: Bob Spencer will be leading a discipleship class on Paul’s letter to the Colossian church and his letter to Philemon in room 15. These two letters are connected as the Colossian church met in Philemon’s home. By combining these two timely letters to this church, into one study, we will get a good view of what the first century church struggle was to understand its new relationship with Christ as “the fullness of God and the only source for living the Christian life” and its struggle to understand how this relationship with Christ impacted their relationship with each other. As the inspired word of God, these letters are also timeless, and have much to say to us today about our relationship with Christ and with each other. Come for a lively time of discussion and sharing. Sermon Notes: Led by Hazel Trotman in room 13. Come enjoy discussing the day’s message and how it applies to our lives. Annual Meeting Update At the December 7th Annual Meeting, Part I, Denny Elliot, Kathy Oathout, Sharon Peterson, and Bernice Willever were elected to serve on the church Council. Fran Anderson, Steve Dean and Shawn Delemeester are stepping down, after completing their three-year terms. Jean Bowman and Mike Meidel were elected to the Nominating Committee. Ray Keener and Bill Osburn have completed their Nominating Committee terms. We greatly appreciate the willingness of all these people to serve the church with their gifts of wisdom, administration and service! The Annual Meeting, Part 2, will be held on Sunday, January 25 at 6 p.m. At this meeting, we will receive ministry and budget reports from 2014. Please plan to attend. Benevolence at Work Our sincere thanks go to the Benevolence Committee for their work during the Christmas season! This year, the Benevolence Ministry touched more than 47 families and individuals, reminding them that God loves and cares about them. Ten children were presented with stockings, plus “Jesus Calling for Kids”; 16 families were presented with gift certificates; and 21 seniors were given remembrance bags and cookies. Dates to Celebrate! Patricia Kay Johnson went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 7th, after a valiant, four-year fight with melanoma. Patricia and her husband of 47 years, Kenneth, have attended Faith Covenant Church and participated in church life since moving to St. Petersburg in 1987. A memorial service for her was held here on December 13th and a second one at their home church of Trinity Evangelical Covenant Church of Oak Lawn, Illinois a week later. Patricia attended North Park College, earning a BS degree in Chemistry there. Later, she received an MS in Chemistry from the University of Illinois and became a teacher. In St. Petersburg, she taught at Shorecrest Preparatory School and The Canterbury School, where she was much loved and respected. Patricia is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth, their two adult daughters, her mother, a brother, a sister, and six grandchildren. Cora Mitchell went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 8th, while with her son in Indianapolis, Indiana. She would have turned 103 on December 11th. Cora came to Faith Covenant from the Missionary Alliance Church and was a delightful woman who will be remembered for her joy and enthusiasm for life and the Lord. Jean Rash, 90, passed away on Saturday, December 13th. She had been homebound for several years, living at Bon Secours Maria Manor. Born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, she came here in 1981 from Chicago Heights, IL. She was preceded in death by parents, Aubrey & Clara Crowder, and her husband, Robert Rash. She is survived by her brother, Windy Crowder and her niece, Karin Wallace, among many others. “Although small in size, she was a giant at heart. Always there with a smile and an offer of support if you needed it. ~ Bonnie Carter” JANUARY BIRTHDAYS 1 Alyssa Coburn 3 Drew Hines 4 Lyda Graser 7 Nico Leeper 7 Lee Ribal 7 Marge St. Thomas 8 Sarah Bostock 17 Reece Barry 18 Cal Herrema 20 Amaryllis Green 21 Jerry Brown 23 Drew Logue 23 Tom Stebbins 28 Leslie Gross 28 Kylah Lancaster 28 Wanda Sunter 30 Leiscia Chadwick 30 Wally Helbig JANUARY ANNIVERSARIES 15 Greg & Julie Nichols (2000) 15 Lee & Peggy Rogers (1961) If we don't have your anniversary or birthday listed, please let us know so we can include your special dates!
