6th Young Sculpture Prize of the French-speaking
community of Belgium
The sixth edition of this competition will take place in 2008. It is aimed
at artists under the age of 40 on 31st December 2007. Participation is
based on a pre-selection of the files submitted. The participants may
present a maximum of three small-format works, which must not be
bigger than 1m x 1m x 1m, and/or three outdoor works. The Young
Sculpture Prize is organised by the Sart-Tilman Open-air Museum and
La Châtaigneraie, the Walloon Centre for Contemporary Art.

6th Young Sculpture Prize of the French-speaking Community of Belgium
Regulations 2008
Article 1
The Walloon Centre for Contemporary Art, "La Châtaigneraie" and the Sart-Tilman Open-air
Museum, are organising the following competition: the Young Sculpture Prize of the Frenchspeaking Community of Belgium.
Article 2
The competition is aimed at artists from the French-speaking Community of Belgium, as well
as artists who have been selected as residential artists within the framework of the Prize (see
Article 5 of the present regulations). Participants must be under the age of 40 on 31st
December 2007.
Article 3
The participants may present a maximum of three small-format works, which must not be
bigger than 1m x 1m x 1m, and/or three outdoor works, which must be able to withstand
being exhibited outside, taking into account that the site is permanently open to the public.
Article 4
The selection will be made on the basis of files. The registration file must include a
curriculum vitae, a minimum of 10 photographic documents representative of the artist’s
work and, possibly, all publications, press files or other publications relating to the artist’s
work. The selection file must be sent to the organisers by 31st March dossier 2008.
Article 5
Based on a cover letter enclosed with the file submitted by the candidates, the pre-selection
jury can award one to six grants for a residential place for artists outside the Belgian Frenchspeaking Community. The grant covers travel costs, daily expenses and a participation in the
costs required to produce the piece of work. The method of attribution, the way it functions
and the sums allocated within the framework of the grants for residential artists are subject
to specific regulations.
Article 6
The candidates selected will be informed by post during the first two weeks of April 2008.
The works presented for the competition (see Article 3) will be exhibited as from 1st
September 2008 at the Sart-Tilman Open-air Museum and/or "La Châtaigneraie" (Walloon
Centre for Contemporary Art). For each piece presented within the framework of the
competition, the organisers will receive a specifications sheet, an insurance value (for the
indoor works) and, insofar as it is possible, a photograph. The organisers must receive this
information when the work is submitted. The organisers are responsible for the insurance
covering the work once it has been submitted.
Article 7
Two prizes will be awarded: - Open-air Young Sculpture Prize of the French-speaking
Community of Belgium: EUR 5000. – Small Format Young Sculpture Prize of the Frenchspeaking Community of Belgium: EUR 2500. The jury is composed of artists, art critics,
journalists and curators.

Article 8
The works presented will be part of a temporary exhibition, from September to October
2008, in the premises of "La Châtaigneraie" for the small-format works and in the grounds
of the Château de Colonster for the open-air works.
Article 9
The preview of the exhibited works and the announcement of the competition results will
take place during the first two weeks of September 2008.
Article 10
"La Châtaigneraie" will be responsible for organising the exhibition of the small-format
sculptures and the Sart-Tilman Open-air Museum for the outdoor sculptures.
Article 11
The exhibited works will be removed by the artists during the two weeks following the end
of the exhibition. The insurance covering the works will expire on this date.
Article 12
By enrolling in the competition, the participants fully accept the present regulations. The
organisers are free to interpret these regulations as they see fit. They may take any decisions
and measures they consider useful.
