2012 Elite Final Team Selection Procedures:
 If the 2011 National “A” Team member wins Gold in his/her weight division at the 2012 Elite
Canadian National Championships he/she will automatically remain National “A” Team member, and
need not attend the 2012 Final Team Selection.
 However an FTS tournament will be required in this weight division to determine who will be
on National “B” Team (the first alternate) in that weight division.



If the 2011 National “A” Team member does not win Gold at the 2012 Elite Canadian National
Championships he/she will automatically be invited to the 2012 FTS.
If the 2011 National “A” Team member cannot participate in the 2012 Elite Canadian National
Championships because of an injury, he/she will be invited to participate at the 2012 FTS. (Medical
paper needed)
If an Athlete cannot participate at the 2012 Final Team Selection for whatever reason there will be no
additional Box-Off.
Eligible athletes in each weight category are:
 2012 Elite Canadian National Champion (Gold Medal) – seed 1
 2012 Elite Canadian National runner up (Silver Medal) – seed 2
 Seed 3, 4, 5 & 6 if applicable
 Seed 3, 4, 5 & 6 selected by the High Performance Director (Selection based on criteria explained
in Annex A below)
Note:
 If the current Elite Canadian National Champion and/or the Silver Medalist are not competing at the
2012 FTS, the High Performance Director may select another boxer in accordance with the selection
criteria explained in Annex A below.
 Athletes that Qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games at the 2011 AIBA Men’s World championships
are exempt from the 2012 Final Team Selection.
2012 Elite Final Team Selection Procedure:

twice.

Three (3) boxers in the category seed 1 (2012 Elite Canadian National Champion) receives a bye and
must be defeated twice.

Four (4) boxers in the category seed 1 (2012 Elite Canadian National Champion) picks his/her
opponent between Seed 2, 3 and 4. If seed 1 should lose in his/her 1st bout, he/she is eliminated from
the tournament.
 Subsequently, should seed 1 reach the final he/she must be defeated twice.

Five (5) boxers in the category seed 1 (2012 Elite Canadian National Champion) gets the bye and pick
his/her opponent between Seed 2, 3, 4 and 5. If seed 1 should lose in his/her 1st bout, he/she is
eliminated from the tournament.
 Subsequently should seed 1 reach the final he/she must be defeated twice.
 All remaining seeds are then matched through an open draw.

Six (6) boxers in the category seed 1 (2012 Elite Canadian National Champion) gets the bye and pick
his/her opponent between Seed 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. If seed 1 should lose in his/her 1st bout, he/she is
eliminated from the tournament.
 Subsequently should seed 1 reach the final he/she must be defeated twice.
 All remaining seed are then matched through an open draw.
Note:
 The Winner of the FTS becomes the National Team Member.
 If seed 1 (2012 Elite Canadian National Champion) does not attend the Final Team Selection (FTS),
there will be an open draw and the winner of the FTS will be the new National “A” Team Member.
 In the event the reigning champion member repeats as 2012 Elite Canadian National Champion, there
will be no FTS in that weight class. However, an open draw will take place with all attending seeds for
the National “B” Team position (first alternate) in that weight division.
Registration:
 Provincial/Territories Association will receive the participant list by January 27, 2012.
 Official Registration document must be completed and received in the Boxing Canada office by this
time. NO EXCEPTIONS.
 No substitute changes and No weight categories changes among the athlete’s will be allowed at any
time.
 Fee of $50 per athletes for no show after the registration deadline (February 13, 2012).
Note:
 Coaches will be able to purchase a $20 weekly pass to assist and coach at the 2012 Elite Final Team
Selection. Boxing Canada coaching card will be required.

Rules:
 AIBA rules will be in effect
Competitor Eligibility:
 Athletes MUST be a Canadian citizens
 Athletes born in 1993 or prior.
 Athletes MUST be Elite open class boxers.
 All participants must be a member of a Boxing Canada Member Association.
Documentation:
 Proof of Canadian Citizenship MUST arrive at the Boxing Canada’s Office before February 14, 2012.
 To participate at this event as an athlete you MUST have a boxing passport with a photo and current
registration year.
 To participate at this event as an athlete the Annual medical MUST be done in your boxing book.
 To participate at this event as a coach you MUST have your Boxing Coach coaching card.
 These four (4) rules will be enforced.
Draws:
 The Elite Final Team Selection draw will be done accordingly to the 2012 Elite Final Team Selection
Procedure
Competition Format:
 AIBA Swiss scoring system will be used for this tournament.
Weight Classes:
 Elite Men’s: 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg and +91kg
 Elite Women’s: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg and +81kg
Weigh In:
 Test scale will be available everyday 1 hour prior to scheduled official weigh-in.
 Registered boxer’s weight should not exceed the maximum of the boxer’s weight class nor be below the
minimum of the boxer’s weight class.
 Any competitor who cannot make the weight at the general weigh-in will be out of the 2012 Elite Final
Team Selection.
Equipment:
 AIBA Swiss scoring system will be used for this tournament.
 Top Ten Competition gloves will be provided by Boxing Canada.
 Top Ten Competition head gear (red and blue) will be provided by Boxing Canada
 Handwraps will be provided to all boxers by Boxing Canada.
 All uniforms used by athletes MUST be a majority colour RED or BLUE for respective corners.
 The mouth guard is mandatory and No Red mouth guard or similar color will be permitted.
 Uniform that denote Canada are not allowed.
 Boxers will not enter with flags, t-shirt or robes in the ring.
 Athletes with long hair MUST wear a bandana or a hair net under their headgear.

NOTE:


No personal boxing gloves, handwraps and head gear will be permitted in the ring.
Headgear has to be put in the ring.
Inspection:
 Athletes MUST pass bandage inspection before each match. Inspection will be done at the gloving
table.
 Athletes will NOT be audibly called for inspection and gloved up.
 Coaches MUST have their boxers inspected and gloved up at least 15 minutes prior to bout time.
Protest:
 A complete protest MUST be prepared by the Provincial Coach or Team Manager and submitted to
the Technical Delegate within 30 Minutes of the end of the match, with a protest fee of $100 in cash or
money order.
Doping Control:
 Doping control testing may be conducted, in accordance with the Canadian Policy on Doping in Sport
and Canadian Doping Control Regulations. Please see http://www.cces.ca.

Note:

In the event of unforeseen or unusual circumstances, as determined by the office of the High
Performance Director. The office of the High Performance Director shall have full discretion to
resolve the matter as it sees fit taking into account factors and circumstances that it deems relevant.
Any such exercise of discretion shall be subject to the Canadian administrative law and principles of
fairness.
APPEAL PROCESSS FOR SEED:
The selection decision for seed may be appealed in accordance with CABA’s Appeal Policy. (Annex 3 of the
document Carding Criteria Nomination Procedure for the 2012-2013 Carding Cycle)
APPEAL OF THE NATIONAL BOUTS RESULTS:
As the athletes are selected through performance in the ring only, an appeal of a decision becomes an appeal of
the performance result decision, called “protest” as per CABA Rules.
1. If a boxer (coach, team manager) feels that the performance result decision was wrong, the team
manager or coach has to submit a written protest to the (neutral) Jury at ringside within one hour of the
bout.
2. The Jury will review the decision, usually with aid of video viewing, immediately after the competition,
and notify the person who submitted the protest of its verdict.
3. Boxing Canada’s Executive Committee will resolve any extraordinary cases
