ACTIVITY
1. Arrange for students to work in pairs. Distribute the activity sheets. Explain that the sentences
on the activity sheets tell the story of Little Red Riding Hood in four different languages. Read
the first sentence of the story in English (Activity Sheet A). Point out the word PIE. Ask students
to find the word in French (GALETTE), in Spanish (PIE), and in Japanese (PIE). Continue in
similar manner with the remaining sentences of the story.
2. Suggest that student pairs make storybooks. Each pair can select a language for the book,
or they can mix languages (Page 1 in English, Page 2 in French, Page 3 in Spanish, etc.).
3. Assist student pairs as needed to assemble and illustrate their storybooks:
• Make one page at a time. Cut out text for
the page and glue it in place at the bottom
of a 6” x 10” sheet of drawing paper.
• Draw a picture to illustrate the page. If desired,
cut out and glue the activity sheet illustration
in place as a part of your picture.

• After completing all six pages, fold a sheet
of construction paper in half to make a front
and back cover for your book.
• Ask your teacher to staple the book together.
4. Allow time for students to look at each other’s
books and to listen at computers to the stories
in various languages.
